Monday 01. June 2009 - Edale Ltd UK, manufacturers of specialist web based security printing and converting solutions, and their distributor C. ILLIES & Co have recently installed a single pass scratch telephone card printing line in Vietnam. The Edale system offers secure phone card production and an A4 duplex transactional mail system, which is unique in its dual application capability.

Edale’s system can be customised to suit the exact requirements of the customer, and this machine was designed to combine multiple processes into a single pass. This rationalises the production process and eliminates the need for work in progress. Such single pass lines have the capacity to produce in excess of 200,000 finished scratch cards per hour.

This Edale system incorporates many features, including high-quality multi-colour print stations, drying towers, turn bar, reel lift, web cleaner and three rotary die stations.

Digital inkjet stations print PIN and serial numbers onto each card, while video verification cameras monitor every card for print legibility and the quality of the scratch off panel. The cameras also relay information back to the controller, which checks the information against the job’s database, to ensure that there are no errors with the data, providing a full integrity system.

Scratch-off inks and release varnish are applied to the cards using further flexographic print stations and tall drying towers accommodate the combination IR and UV dryers.

The transactional mail system produces regular high-volume mobile telephone contract bills. Both sides of the web are printed to produce billing information, on a “sheet-by-sheet” basis, that is combined in multi-part sets. Axode cameras are used to read a unique number on either side of each sheet to ensure that every set is printed correctly and is complete.

C. ILLIES & Co (Hanoi Office) said: “Edale’s ability to combine multiple process into a single pass, gives the end user an advanced commercial and technical edge in this market. Edale have been outstanding in every aspect of this project, from the initial concept and designs, up to the installation of this machine and continuing support service.”

James Boughton, Managing Director of Edale Ltd added: “We have welcomed the opportunity to work in partnership with both C. ILLIES & Co and the End User, to demonstrate how multiple processes can be consolidated into a single pass , allowing the End User to profit from a vast number of advantages and cost reductions. Our extensive experience in the market sector of Commercial Security has proved invaluable in providing an innovative and profitable solution to the End User.”
