Eastman to Share Insights on Solutions for VOC Compliant Coatings Systems at European Coatings Show

Monday 18. May 2009 - Renewably sourced, new cellulosic additives achieve performance and end-use aesthetics

Eastman Chemical Company will share its expertise in renewably sourced, new cellulosic additives with formulators looking to meet Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) regulations at the European Coating Show Congress in Nuremburg, Germany, on April 1 from 14.30 to 15.00 hrs.

Deepanjan Bhattacharya, Ph.D., Eastman’s Research Associate in the specialty coatings development group, will be presenting a paper on April 1 from 14.30 to 15.00 hrs describing cellulosic additives which help formulators meet evolving VOC standards for both waterborne and solventborne coating systems without sacrificing performance or end-use aesthetics.

Entitled Leveraging Fundamental Structure-Property Relationships to Develop Solutions for Compliant Coating Systems, Bhattacharya will also discuss the natural renewability of Eastman Cellulose Esters.

An applications-driven “product spotlight” about cellulosic additives will also be presented on March 31 from 10.30- 11.00 hrs at Forum 6, stand 133.

“As VOC regulations continue to drive changes in coating formulations to waterborne technology or to higher solids in solventborne systems, the ability to develop effective and sustainable products grows increasingly important to the industry,” says Bhattacharya.

Eastman will be showcasing its Eastman Solus Technology Platform for low-VOC systems at Hall 9, Stand 9-305. Solus 2100 Performance Additive was launched at the European Coatings Show in 2007. Designed to improve drying time and to optimize overall film formation, Solus 2100 improves application efficiency and lowers overall system costs in high solids applications. The product has been very well received for a variety of market applications such as automotive refinish clearcoats, aerospace topcoats and coatings for plastics.

Eastman is continuing to build on the success of Solus 2100 with the anticipated addition of Developmental Performance Additive (DPA) 2386 to the Solus family later this year. Specifically targeted for high solids automotive basecoats and industrial coatings, DPA 2386 is a multi-functional performance additive designed to bring brighter metallic colors to life through improved metallic flake orientation, smoother films, enhanced DOI, and increased productivity.
