Friday 08. May 2009 - El Telégrafo opts for KBA newspaper press technology

Production of Ecuador’s oldest newspaper, El Telégrafo in Guayaquil, will be transferred to a KBA Colora by the end of the year. For managing director Alex Camacho Sotomayor the investment is a major step towards addressing demands from readers and advertisers for enhanced colour, quality and immediacy.

The Colora will have 470mm (18.5in) cut-off, a maximum web width of 1260mm (49.5in) and a maximum rated output of 37,500 32-page or 75,000 16-page broadsheet titles, all in full colour. Alongside El Telégrafo it will print other titles and periodicals. Says Mr Camacho Sotomayor: “While checking out some reference installations we saw a similar KBA configuration that ticked all the right boxes. And the Colora met all our specs with regard to building dimensions and delivery time.”

High-tech features make for easier handling

The double-wide KBA Colora is configured with two KBA Pastomat C reelstands with KBA Patras M reel handling, two four-high towers for 4/4, two turner decks, a superstructure with two formers and a KF 5 jaw folder with a 2:5:5 cylinder ratio. Useful automation modules (ink pumping, washing, two consoles with EAE’s AVE-System Print software) and features such as colour and cut-off register controls support a high level of productivity and print quality.
