Longridge moves to Heidelberg for control and speed

Monday 04. May 2009 - Ousting a Roland 300, Purup CtP system, Fuji workflow and Accura MIS system Longridge Print has opted for a Heidelberg package of linked equipment which will give it total colour control and very fast and predictable printed results.

The Crowborough company is taking delivery of: a Speedmaster SM 74-5+L, a five-colour B2 press with coater; a Suprasetter 75 CtP device; Printready workflow; and Prinance JDF-enabled MIS system.

“We started out looking for a new CtP device to replace the Purup system which was no longer made,” says managing director Neil Long. “We were looking at Agfa and Fuji but approached Heidelberg and asked if they would like to quote and whether there was an opportunity to create a package.”

Although Longridge Print has had five-colour presses before, it believes that the coater it has added to the specification this time will enable it to produce work faster to meet the most stringent deadlines. This means customers will receive an even more responsive service.

“With AxisControl spectrophotometry and prepress to press closed loop colour we will have a level of control we haven’t had before. The idea of the package is that we can link it all up digitally to optimise production and management efficiency. The production equipment has just arrived this week and the MIS system will follow on,” says Mr Long.

Last year the company installed a Canon C7000vp Image Press which handles most of the A3+ size work. With the new Speedmaster the general commercial printer will be able to offer optimum options to meet the various quality and budgetary requirements of its nationwide customer base. It produces a range of brochures, leaflets and stationery products and other promotional materials.
