Tuesday 14. April 2009 - Presstek, Inc., a leading manufacturer and marketer of digital offset printing solutions, today announced that Kelowna InstaPrint in Kelowna, British Columbia has selected the Presstek 34DI digital offset press as the cornerstone for their business growth strategy.

After purchasing Kelowna InstaPrint in Kelowna, British Columbia, several years ago, the Mitzel family focused on improving prepress operations. Next in line was a plan to stimulate business growth by providing unique services to its local marketplace.

“We looked at a number of options,” said Jamie Robertson, Manager of Prepress. “We came to the conclusion that the Presstek 34DI press was the best solution for us. We recently acquired the press and at the same time we expanded our modernized facility, and the combination has really set us apart.”

Robertson points out that compared to a traditional 4- or 6-color press, the 34DI press delivers an extremely good value for the dollar. “There is no need to have a separate CTP system,” he explains, “since plates are imaged right on the press. We get 300-line screen output and can give our customers very fast turnaround cost-effectively for relatively small quantities of very high quality printing.”

In addition to the small physical footprint, Kelowna InstaPrint was also attracted by the small environmental footprint of the 34DI press. “Traditional printing hasn’t been particularly environmentally friendly,” says Robertson, “with all of the chemistry that is required. The Presstek DI press bypasses all of that, in addition to using a lot less materials and generating significantly less waste. It is a monumental leap forward in efficiency and environmental sustainability.”

Along with its 34DI press, Kelowna InstaPrint also implemented Presstek’s Momentum Pro workflow with Dynagram’s inpO2 imposition. “We went from film to a fully digital workflow,” Robertson concludes. “It has made a huge difference to the business. The changes the Mitzel family has brought to Kelowna InstaPrint are amazing. Their foresight and the terrific support we have received from Presstek are helping us to remain profitable, even during this current economic storm.”
