Lowe-Martin wins gold for most environmentally progressive printer in Canada for the 2nd consecutive year

Tuesday 24. February 2009 - For the second year in a row, The Lowe-Martin Group was presented with the GOLD AWARD for Most Environmentally Progressive Printer in Canada at the 4th Annual Environmental Printing Awards, held on February 12, 2009 at the Eglinton Grand in Toronto.

The prestigious award was presented by PrintAction magazine with, as keynote speaker, Tzeporah Berman, co-founder of ForestEthics a non-profit organization that publicly lobbies and partners with corporations to save endangered forests.

What’s more, Lowe-Martin also received Gold and Bronze awards for two print projects, in the Most Progressive Environmental Printing Project, Electrophotography category. These two projects are unique in their design but more importantly they are unique because so many environmental considerations have been incorporated into their production, including sustainable fibre source, geographic location of paper mill, alternative energy use in paper and print production, EcoLogo printer (strict VOC, water effluents and waste targets), zero packaging, environmental labeling, environmental education and the promotion of environmental issues beyond print and communications. Lowe-Martin has also introduced Lean Manufacturing and 5S into all of its manufacturing facilities resulting in an overall reduction of materials consumed during end to end production.

Environmental sustainability has been a cornerstone of the Lowe-Martin corporate philosophy since 1999. Based on a balance between ecology and economy, Lowe-Martin’s Environmental Business Strategy focuses on eliminating the gaps between ecological values and environmental performance, while considering the financial growth of the business. Lowe-Martin holds both Environmental Choice Program (Eco Logo) and FSC certifications.

Lowe-Martin has been recognized as an industry leader for encouraging investment in greener processes, for sharing ideas and best practices, and for demonstrating that environmental sustainability provides a competitive advantage. The company celebrated its centennial in 2008, and continues to advance a clear strategy to reduce its carbon footprint by implementing eco-conscious solutions.

“Our continued Environmental leadership has been a joint effort by our staff, our Customers and our Vendors and I would like to thank them all for their contributions. We are proud to be recognized by the prestigious Environmental Printing Awards for a third year in a row and are committed to continuing to lessen the impact we have on our Planet”, said Lowe-Martin’s President and CEO Ward Griffin.
