Institute for Graphics and Imaging to Conduct Pulp and Paper Technology Course

Wednesday 18. February 2009 - The Institute for Graphics and Imaging (IGI)—an education and training organization funded by and dedicated to the printing and graphic arts industry—has announced a two-day training course covering all aspects of papermaking, from the pulping of wood through paper manufacturing. 

The course will be held March 31 and April 1, at the IGI facility in suburban Milwaukee , Wisconsin .  The course leader will be David Hollenberg, a noted paper scientist with years of experience at companies such as St. Regis Paper, James River, Kimberly-Clark, Fort James , and Georgia-Pacific.  Hollenberg is the inventor or coinventor of 26 US patents in the papermaking field.
 
Students in the course will learn the basics of papermaking and converting, and how paper differences influence printing and graphics.  They will learn how to measure paper characteristics and how to specify paper for a variety of end uses.  The course will provide a comprehensive understand of paper science, and is appropriate for printing industry personnel as well as newcomers to the pulp and paper industry.  Course details may be found at http://www.igi.org/events_calendar/default.asp.
