Franklin to Chair National Association of Corporate Directors

Wednesday 21. January 2009 - The Honorable Barbara Hackman Franklin, member of Dow’s Board of Directors, was elected as Vice Chairman of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Board of Directors in January 2009, and will assume the Chairmanship in March, 2009.

The former U.S. Secretary of Commerce under President George H.W. Bush has been a prominent member of NACD for nearly 15 years and won the NACD “Director of the Year” Award in 2000. In addition to her government service, Franklin has been a director of fourteen public companies. A Director of The Dow Chemical Company for more than 25 years, she chairs the Audit Committee and is a member of the Governance and Executive Committees.

“This position recognizes Barbara’s vision, experience and exceptional leadership with industry leaders, policy makers and regulators,” said Andrew Liveris, chairman and CEO of The Dow Chemical Company. “Barbara is a deserving candidate and is well prepared to help solve the tough economic and corporate governance issues that face American business leaders today.”

Franklin is also a director of the U.S. China Business Council, the Atlantic Council, and Chairman Emerita of the Economic Club of New York. She is an expert and distinguished adviser on issues of corporate governance, lending her insight to the American public as a commentator on PBS’ Nightly Business Report. Franklin co-chaired the NACD Blue Ribbon Commission on Executive Compensation in 2003.
