Kensett breaks MBO hold with first Stahlfolder buy

Kensett Bookbinders & Finishers has nearly completed its switch from Wohlenberg to Polar guillotines and now it is breaking with tradition and buying a Stahlfolder Ti36 which will run alongside eight MBOs.

Wednesday 14. January 2009 - Kensett Bookbinders & Finishers has nearly completed its switch from Wohlenberg to Polar guillotines and now it is breaking with tradition and buying a Stahlfolder Ti36 which will run alongside eight MBOs.

This investment takes Kensett into miniature folding, enabling it to provide a service for existing customers and hopefully also opening doors into the pharmaceutical leaflets market.

“Several customers have said they have had trouble finding this service in our area and many have to send to the Midlands and the North to get work done. We believe we can fill a gap with this service and having a niche is important in the current economic climate,” says James Wheeler, director.

The company says it is reviewing its folding technology thoroughly at the moment. When it last reviewed the guillotines market it decided the latest generation Polar technology was ahead of the crowd. That resulted in the purchase earlier this year of a Polar 115XT with Flowline including a stacker, jogger with weighing scales and Transomat unloader.

Kensett believes the newest Stahlfolders are infinitely better than previous generations so are in contention for any future orders.

The Ti36 will operate at the 24,000 sq ft factory in Hove from 6am to 6pm daily with overtime alongside other finishing services that are offered including perfect binding , wire o binding , saddle stitching , polybagging. It can offer the trade printer the whole package with all the processes under one roof. The company employs 45 staff and has a turnover of £1.75m
