Billian Publishing, Inc. Announces Acquisition of Porter Research

Thursday 08. January 2009 - Atlanta-based Billian Publishing, Inc., owners of Billian's HealthDATA, announced the acquisition of Gwinnett-based Porter Research.

Porter Research was founded in 1989 just as the information technology industry was entering a new phase of accelerated innovation. Since then, new and established companies have contracted with Porter to deliver rich knowledge about their markets and customers. Porter’s special area of expertise has been Healthcare IT. From complex regulations and shifting government requirements to the adoption of new technologies like electronic medical records, Healthcare IT is a world unto its own. Porter has been a well-known brand in the Healthcare marketplace for more than a decade, working with hundreds of clients.

Since 1953, Billian’s HealthDATA (BHD) has been the leading provider of comprehensive market intelligence to the healthcare industry. From the groundbreaking national directory, The Hospital Blue Book(TM) to online healthcare databases and Healthcare IT market intelligence, BHD is committed to being the most dynamic resource in the industry today.

“As our chairman, Doug Billian, said, this acquisition is more of a merger between two companies that complement each other in ways that provide terrific value for clients,” said Jim Borneman, president, Billian Publishing. “The companies have worked together informally for several years. Porter’s very talented staff know the Billian’s HealthDATA products and have used them to help their clients in numerous ways.”

Porter’s Don Graham will remain general manager of Porter Research and will take on the general manager role of the Billian’s HealthDATA division. “BHD’s ability to gather and furnish quality data is well known within the industry, and adding Porter’s capabilities will enable the company to assist clients with knowledgeable use of that data in ways that aid decision making, create efficient selling opportunities and ultimately improve profitability. Together BHD and Porter can provide customers with a complete set of tools and products to help them increase revenue and control expenses in these challenging economic times.”

Cynthia Porter will continue as president of Porter Research. The combined leadership teams bring to bear more than 150 years of healthcare IT experience.

“These are challenging times to pursue acquisitions,” added Borneman. “However, this is an opportunity to grow and increase the company’s competitive advantage with fully leveraged market intelligence. Both BHD’s and Porter’s clients are working harder than ever to protect existing revenue streams and generate new sales opportunities, and the tools that BHD and Porter provide are more valuable than ever.”
