Lytron Inc Launches their Fifth System Production Line

Wednesday 31. December 2008 - Lytron, Inc., a manufacturer of Total Thermal Solutions, announced today its commissioning of a new system production line, Lytron’s fifth system manufacturing line.

It will produce large, full rack size liquid cooling systems, including Lytron’s soon to be released LCS50, as well as other large custom liquid cooling systems. The new line utilizes lean manufacturing and 5 S techniques to ensure the highest quality and cost-effective manufacturing.

The U-shaped line, consisting of 3 balanced work stations and 2 test stations, is designed for single piece flow on specially designed dollies. The advantages of this layout are flexibility among operators, improved operator communication, and a controlled-flow pull process.

The work stations are equipped with computers for electronic assembly drawings, ensuring the worker always uses the most current documentation. Each station also contains all the required tools, organized on a shadow board. Many of the units’ subassemblies, including brazed or soldered copper plumbing, are built in other parts of Lytron’s factory and fed into this cell just in time, minimizing in-process inventory. The two test stations include calibrated flow and pressure gauges, tight temperature control chillers for facility supply water, and a deionized (DI) water system.

The line’s 5 assemblers are cross-trained and can work at any station. Each assembler inspects the work performed at the previous station, ensuring the highest quality. The test stations are staffed with two workers who perform acceptance testing on every unit.

Craig Carswell, Lytron’s Chief Operating Officer, said “Lytron needed this expansion to support our fast growing systems business which includes the soon to be released LCS50, designed for data center cooling as well as other large custom units. The design and layout of the new line was a team effort which included manufacturing engineering, factory personnel and management, and our quality department, all working to ensure high quality, cost effective products.”
