Aurelius Acquires British Book Club Company BCA
Wednesday 24. December 2008 - On 19 December, the German holding company Aurelius announced its acquisition of Book Club Associates (BCA), which comprises seven British Clubs. Thus, another step has been completed in the process of selling Direct Groups operations.
In July, Bertelsmann AG had announced it would begin the process of selling Direct Groups operations in a total of nine countries in order to focus Direct Groups business on the major European markets. This included initiating the sale process for BCA. The Munich-based industrial holding is taking over the biggest British mail-order bookseller with effect from 1 January 2009. After losses in the past, the company is expected to return to profitability in 2009.
The sale of Direct Groups Dutch and Flemish operations, under the Direct Group Benelux umbrella, was announced last week.
