graphispag_digital 2009 conferences, more knowledge for the development of the world of graphics

Monday 22. December 2008 - From the 11th to 14th of February 2009, graphispag_digital will host around ten seminars and conferences, organised in collaboration with associations, companies and organisations from the sector, on the latest technological trends and advances in equipment and software, as well as on the new business possibilities the graphics market has to offer.

The list of topics to be debated includes: the present and future of flexography, the applications of digital printing for promotion and transactional marketing, software and hardware control in graphic design, new niches for medium and large format digital printing, screen printing as an improvement to the graphic product, graphic arts education and work prospects in the sector.

According to the co-president of the graphispag_digital’s Organising Committee, Jesús Garre, “the contents of the programme have been agreed on by a technical committee formed by members of associations, schools and representatives from different supplier companies and have been adapted to the current educational needs of graphic industry professionals and of other related sectors which use new digital technology”.

The events taking place at graphispag_digital are as follows:

Flexography Conference
Topics will be the new business opportunities and market niches of flexography, after the latest technologies and new materials, especially polymers, have opened the door to markets, previously cornered by photogravure; the possibilities this technique offers with less environmental impact than other more contaminating printing systems; heptachrome flexography, the high production of this system in long runs and in processes which require fast change jobs and the need for on-going training in this speciality. The conference, which will take place on the morning of the 11th of February, is organised by graphispag_digital in collaboration with the Agrupación Técnica Española de Flexografía (ATEF) – Graphispack Association.

New business opportunities in digital printing
The different applications of digital printing to combine promotional elements with databases and variable data printing software will be covered from the experience of Telefónica Móviles and Kodak. Richard Gardner, CEO of Gardners, a British digital services company, will explain, in a practical way, how to combine new business ideas with digital printing; and Ignasi Pietx, general manager of Artyplan will present the quality and flexibility of medium and large format digital printing. The conference will be held on the afternoon of the 11th of February.

CongrésGràfic 2009
On the morning of the 12th of February at graphispag_digital, the Col.legi Professional de Disseny Gràfic de Catalunya will inaugurate a new edition of its Congrèsgràfic with a plenary session entitled “Soft & Hard”. This congress, which is a space for proposals and debate to improve comprehension and professional design among designers and society, will start with a round table featuring different proposals and offers from manufacturers and developers of programmes and equipment for graphic design and visual communication. There will also be talks on technical verification of graphic projects on-line, what the ideal designer’s studio should be like and the process of graphic creation for television.

Graphic Production Management
These sessions, to be held on the 12th of February in collaboration with the Asociación Empresarial Española de Preimpresión y Servicios Digitales (APRES), will serve to debate the impact of the Internet and the digital world on the Graphic Arts business and the survival of traditional graphic products, from the conclusions of the thesis written by Javier Rodríguez Borlado, from the Tajamar Technological and Graphics Institute, in the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). The financial advisor Manuel de Gregorio will analyse the economic situation and its affect on the structure of graphic companies, providing keys to innovation and resistance. Various prepress companies will talk about their expèriences in business model changes in the last three years.

Medium and Large Format Digital Printing
The Comisión Sectorial de Suministradores para la Impresión Digital de Medio y Gran Formato, a section of asSTID/Graphispack Association, and the Asociación Española de Empresas de Serigrafía e Impresión Digital (AEDES), are cooperating in this conference on new applications in industrial digital printing, the use of digital graphic technology in photographic laboratories, trends and penetration in the digital graphic printing sector and the new generation of digital solutions geared towards innovation and added value in screen printing, stamping and textile printing. The target audience of this conference, which will be held on the morning of the 12th of February, includes users of medium and large format digital printing plotters, both for industrial use for third parties and for applications in in-house processes.

Screen Printing Conference
The Agrupación de Suministradores para la Serigrafía, Tampografía e Impresión Digital (asSTID) of the Graphispack Association and AEDES are organising this conference on the 12th of February which will focus on the qualities of screen printing when improving graphic production and will analyse the integration of this digital printing system in the graphics business, as well as the need for training and information in order to successfully apply these techniques in production processes.

Modern Digital Reprography
This conference, organised on the 13th of February by the Asociación Española de Reprografía (AER) will serve to reflect on the future of digital reprography and on the qualities that graphic service companies need to have in a context in which digital printing plays a key role.

Education Conference
This session, to be held on the 13th of February, targets teachers from graphic arts and design teaching centres. During the event, various teaching centres will exchange experiences on their new educational products and courses adapted to the challenges imposed by the sector. They are the Tajamar Institute, IES Llanes, Escuela Salesianos Atocha, IES Puerta Bonita and the Escuela de Formación Profesional “Antoni Algueró”. The programme will also include a round table debate on professional qualifications in the graphic arts sector.

Young Graphic Communication Conference
In collaboration with the Graphispack Association, the show will dedicate the 13th of February to students from various disciplines related to design, graphic arts, industry, marketing, advertising and communication who are planning to pursue a career in the graphics sector and, more specifically, in digital and screen printing specialities. The programme will include sessions on virtual packaging design and new versions of graphic design software.
