Thursday 18. December 2008 - FESPA Announces Jury for 2009 Digital Print Awards Judging

FESPA has announced the jury for FESPA’s third Digital Print Awards, supported by HP. The independent expert jury of industry editors, print service providers and print buyers will evaluate all award entries.

The jury will be chaired by FESPA board member, Christian Duyckaerts, whose own business Print & Display in Belgium, has received numerous industry accolades for digital innovation. President of the screen and digital work group of Belgian trade association Febelgra, Christian is also a member of the Organisation Mondiale de la Presse Periodique.

The other jurors will be:

• Barney Cox, executive editor for the print group at Haymarket Business Publications, whose graphic arts portfolio includes PrintWeek, Printing World incorporating Print Buyer, Druck & Medien, PrintWeek Ukraine, PrintWeek Middle East, PrintWeek Russia and the online information source, printweek.com.

• Alain Vermeire, editor-in-chief of Belgian business publications Grafisch Nieuws, Nouvelles Graphiques and M&C.

• Michael Seidl, publisher of the central and eastern European Print & Publishing media group, whose titles serve print service providers in Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary.

• Lorenzo Villa, editor-in-chief of leading Italian industry publication Italia Publishers and its specialist sister title Large Format.

• Uwe Heinisch, editor-in-chief of SIP, the leading German title for screen and wide-format digital print, and contributor to its partner magazine, TVP.

• Agustín Torres, publisher of Pro-Digit@l, the industry publications covering the digital revolution in the dynamic Spanish and Portuguese graphic arts markets.

• Toob Alers, owner of Dutch creative agency Buro Toob, specialises in below the line advertising, with clients that include Peugeot, Corio Retail Nederlands and Délifrance.

• Bas Schuring, production manager of Dutch digital print service provider PK Media BV, winner of last year’s Interior Category Award in the FESPA Digital Print Awards, for a digitally printed Philippe Starck chair.

The jury will meet in Amsterdam on 5th March 2009, to review the entries received from printers across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Their task is to select the most outstanding examples of innovation in digital wide-format printing which deliver definable advantages to the client.

This year, FESPA has consolidated the Award categories, ensuring that print service providers can easily identify the best category for their work. The six competition categories are: Vehicles, Interior, Exterior, Packaging and Manufactured Goods, Textiles and Fine Art. The jury will also choose one overall Platinum winner from the category winners.

FESPA CEO Nigel Steffens comments, “We are delighted to have once again brought together a jury of this calibre for the Awards. FESPA’s awards are greatly respected amongst our community, and one of the reasons for this is the high level of expertise of the panel members that judge the entries. Year on year, the quality and standard of entries has improved, making the judging process an increasingly difficult task. We thank our jurors for their commitment to this competition, and look forward to a stimulating debate in March.”

The competition is open for entries until 13th February 2009. To enter, simply visit www.fespadpa.com. Entrants just log on, select the most appropriate category for their work, complete a simple entry form per entry, and attach up to three high resolution images of the project. There is no need to submit physical samples of work, and entry is free of charge.

The six category winners will be informed in writing, and will receive a flight to Amsterdam and one night’s accommodation as part of their prize, along with promotional support from FESPA. The winners’ work will be displayed at the third FESPA Digital exhibition, 12th to 14th May 2009 at the RAI exhibition centre in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The winners will be presented with their awards at a VIP dinner event in Amsterdam during the exhibition.
