RISI to Launch Global Magazine for the Pulp and Paper Industry

Tuesday 18. November 2008 - RISI today announced the launch of a new global publication covering the entire pulp and paper industry.

The new magazine, to be called Pulp & Paper International (PPI), will be sent to more than 30,000 subscribers throughout North America, Europe, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa. Available in January 2009, the new PPI magazine will be BPA audited and will reach the largest print circulation in the pulp and paper sector.

Rhiannon James-van Beuningen, Senior Vice President, Marketing Services, RISI commented, “With ongoing globalization in the pulp and paper industry and the audience’s need to know what’s going on around the world, we have decided to unite the two most powerful magazines in the sector — Pulp & Paper and its sister publication PPI — to create one global force.”

The new publication will deliver the same high-quality articles and columns that readers have come to rely on — plus new information that will strengthen the magazine’s content. Drawing on their experience from writing for both Pulp & Paper and PPI magazines, RISI’s international team of editors — Graeme Rodden, Mark Rushton, Felicia Willis and Annie Zhu — will write and edit the new PPI magazine.

“The PPI team will attend more industry events and visit more mills than any other editors in the industry and will be the first to let readers know about the most important developments. This magazine will be essential reading for all levels of mill and corporate personnel,” John Day, CEO of RISI, explained.

RISI has more than 60 staff editors, engineers and economists in North America, Asia, Europe and Latin America that specialize in the pulp and paper industry. “This worldwide presence makes us the only true global information provider in the sector. The new magazine will offer the most comprehensive coverage in the industry and will reach more people around the globe than any other pulp and paper publication,” Rhiannon said.

In addition, RISI announced that a new digital edition of the magazine will be available in 2009 with a projected circulation of 10,000 subscribers. They will also be expanding their Chinese coverage, which includes a new quarterly publication, Pulp & Paper International (PPI) China magazine. More details will be available later in the year.

Other plans for 2009 include several enhancements to the website including:

— A new digital white paper library
— Enhanced technology channels with additional staff-written white papers
and case studies
— A new jobs board with enhanced listings and a resume databank
— A new industry-wide events database
