Packaging
Emphasis on Patient-Friendly Packages
Wednesday 12. November 2008 - HCPC Packaging Awards: Wallet from August Faller KG Among the Finalists
The “Triquilar” wallet by August Faller KG is one of the patient-friendliest new packages to be de-veloped this year. At the annual conference of the European Healthcare Compliance Packaging Councils (HCPC) in Vienna, this producer of phar-maceutical packaging was among the finalists for the HCPC Packaging Awards with this three-part wallet with calendar labels. Faller developed it for a contraceptive that is sold by Bayer Schering Pharma AG in Berlin and produced by Schering GmbH und Co. Produktions KG in Weimar, Germany.
The jury praised the packages concept, which combines compliance with convenience to support proper use of the contraceptive. The reclosable wallet is flat and handy, making it easy to carry anywhere. It has the form of a miniature folder, consisting of three sections: a blister card holding the pills, patient information, and dry-peel calendar stickers (see picture). These are preprinted and can be flexibly applied to the blister card to help the user remember when to take the pills. The labels are easy to remove, and the resulting free space can be used for personal notes.
The HCPC Packaging Awards are bestowed each year to honor packag-ing concepts that excel through outstanding user-friendliness. The Healthcare Compliance Packaging Council (HCPC) uses them to promote the development of patient-friendly packages as an important way of sup-porting the proper use of medications and the success of therapies.
August Faller KG has already received several awards for highly compli-ant packaging concepts. Most recently, the Waldkirch, Germany-headquartered packaging producer received the ProCarton/ECMA Award three times in a row. Faller entered the HCPC competition for the first time in 2008.
Fallers main focus is on pharmaceutical packaging. Its product portfolio comprises folding cartons, package inserts and leaflets, self-adhesive la-bels, and pharmaceutical services. The company, which has facilities in Waldkirch, Binzen, Schopfheim and Grossbeeren near Berlin, all in Ger-many, increased its sales by 13 percent to 87 million euros in 2007. Faller belongs to the COPACO and COPAPHARM EUROPE packaging alli-ances.
