Lecta Group reorganizes its structure in Spain

Friday 07. November 2008 - Torraspapel, a company part of the Lecta Group, a manufacturer and distributor of coated woodfree ("CWF") and specialty papers, has announced it will reorganize its structure in Spain.

The reorganization will entail the resizing and conversion of the Sarrià de Ter plant where the production of CWF paper will stop, and the closing down of Amorebieta and Algeciras production sites.
The reorganization will affect about 400 employees in the company and will reduce CWF production capacity by 160,000 tons per year.

The international structural crisis of the paper industry and the current economical situation, have forced the company to take this decision which was communicated to the workers’ representatives. The measure is considered to be essential so that Lecta strengthens its competitive position in the market and protects the jobs of the employees that will continue to work with the company.

Lecta, in the respect of Spanish legal proceedings, is committed to reduce the social impact of the restructuring by negotiating a possible agreement with the legal representatives of the workers and the unions, including a Social Plan.

This decision will affect the above mentioned plants, thus the other Spanish sites in Almazán, Leitza, Motril, Sant Joan les Fonts, Uranga and Zaragoza will continue to carry out their normal operations.

Since December 1999, Torraspapel is part of Lecta Group, which also includes Condat in France and Cartiere del Garda in Italy. Lecta is the second largest European CWF manufacturing group with a production capacity of over 1.5 million tons.
