Domino to Unwrap New Coding Innovations at Emballage 2008

Friday 17. October 2008 - Domino Printing Sciences plc, a world-leader in total coding, marking, printing and traceability solutions, is set to unveil innovative new additions to its wide-ranging portfolio of primary, secondary and tertiary coding technologies at Emballage 2008.

Key highlights will comprise the global launch of its new G-Series of thermal ink jet printers; a preview of its efficiency-enhancing A-Series plus Duo range; the D-Series laser and the V300+ from Domino’s revolutionary thermal transfer overprinting range. Among the comprehensive line-up on booth A4 E141, Domino will also be showing a linerless version of its M-Series print & apply labeller for the first time at a major European exhibition.

Foremost among Domino’s highlights will be the premier of its new G-Series, thermal ink jet (TIJ) printing solution, which will enable a broader use and application of TIJ products in specific market areas, such as the pharmaceutical sector. The G-Series meets the ever-increasing requirement for improved quality and high speed printing by delivering impressive 300/600 dpi resolution at speeds of up to 300m/min. By achieving such high quality, the G-Series fulfills the track and trace needs of manufacturers by enabling 2D codes, including ECC 200, and other machine readable formats to be printed. This not only facilitates the tracking of products, but also helps reduce counterfeiting by employing techniques such as mass serialisation. In addition, a unique benefit of Domino’s G-Series is afforded by its multi-substrate, fast-drying ink, which allows manufacturers to apply ECC 200 codes to an extended range of printable materials.

Alongside the G-Series, Domino will offer Emballage visitors an exclusive preview of its eagerly anticipated A-Series plus Duo range, which builds on the established technology of the world’s best-selling continuous ink jet printer, the Domino A-Series. The A-Series plus Duo directly answers manufacturers’ requirements to apply additional lines of data – such as track and trace information, logos or text – without compromising line speeds, thanks to the use of double the number of nozzles in each printhead. As each ink stream is deflected independently, the A-Series plus Duo can deliver twice the number of printed lines in the same time as its predecessor. The printer is therefore able to match the throughput levels demanded of high speed canning/bottling lines, which can run at up to 2000 products per minute.

Also certain to turn heads among Emballage visitors will be a linerless model of Domino’s M-Series print & apply labeller. The M500 responds to waste reduction and productivity improvement targets in equal measure. The elimination of backing for the self-adhesive labels means that waste is radically reduced and the print & apply labeller can run for up to twice as long between roll changes. Delivering accurate information and label placement without compromising production line speeds, the M-Series range ensures maximum productivity, flexibility and profitability; and includes thermal transfer and direct thermal label printers in both left and right hand versions. These combine with a range of blow, tamp, tamp and blow and wipe label applicators for optimal performance and operation.

End-of-line innovations to be shown at Emballage are not confined to the M-Series: Domino’s C-Series will be represented by the recently introduced C6000 AS plus. This patent-applied-for system utilises a single printer to code onto two adjacent sides of a case, thereby reducing capital investment, impact in the work area and operational complexity.
The C6000 AS plus is a revolutionary product that responds to long term market demands for more efficient use of both equipment and production floor space, particularly in the food sector. The demand for supply chain traceability in high volume retailing, wholesale and food service means that cases must be coded, a need that until now, could only be met by complex installations involving multiple coding stations, conveyors and turntables.

Domino will also exhibit its new C6000V plus, a high speed printer which significantly extends the application possibilities for C-Series users. The C6000V plus prints down from above the production line rather than from the side, opening up a number of new industrial applications, including printing directly to diverse substrates including wood and plasterboard. The vertical configuration of the C6000V plus also makes it ideal for high-speed case packing requirements such as those increasingly encountered in the beverage bottling industry, opening up opportunities for installation within case erecting equipment prior to cases being filled.

Domino’s extensive product showcase in Paris will also include the V-Series thermal transfer printer for flexible packaging, which produces clear, legible codes on both intermittent and continuous high-speed production lines. Following Domino’s recent acquisition of Photon Energy GmbH and its subsidiary, NWL Lasertechnologie GmbH, visitors will also have the opportunity to hear more about the leading-edge laser source technology delivered by the Nautilus marking system. This solid-state laser technology is set to complement Domino’s existing CO2 laser business by extending the company’s reach into the automotive, aircraft, electronic, tool and medical sectors.

Yann Gorrity, General Manager of Domino France, comments, “Domino’s product showcase at Emballage underscores our objective of delivering end-to-end solutions across a plethora of industries. This is reflected by customer feedback which indicates an increasing need to access a wide range of coding and marking technologies that meet the multiple requirements of specific applications.”

He continues, “The ability to apply innovative, high quality coding and marking technology is paramount to fulfilling manufacturers’ needs with regard to data acquisition and traceability. This is why our equipment needs to offer tangible productivity benefits and improved Overall Equipment Effectiveness to our customers and we are confident that the attributes of our products on display at Emballage fulfils these objectives.”
