Colourstream to be UK’s Anicolor long perfector pioneer

Colourstream will be the first UK company to take delivery of a Speedmaster SM 52 Anicolor long perfector and only the second in the world to have a ten-colour configuration, the first having been shipped to Japan. The press will soon be delivered to the Derby plant.

Friday 17. October 2008 - Colourstream will be the first UK company to take delivery of a Speedmaster SM 52 Anicolor long perfector and only the second in the world to have a ten-colour configuration, the first having been shipped to Japan. The press will soon be delivered to the Derby plant.

The company has a reputation for pioneering products. It was the first in the UK with an SM 74-10P and it is a site selected by Heidelberg to provide early feedback on Prinance and Prinect workflow developments as they evolve.

Colourstream is relinquishing one of two SM 74-10Ps for the new Anicolor, believing that the smaller format is better suited to the shorter runs. It likes ten units which gives it the ability to seal (which it predicts will be 90% of the use of the fifth and tenth units) or apply special colours.

“The calculations we have done suggest the breakpoint between our Inidgo and the Anicolor is about 200 copies,” says John Greene, managing director. “The breakpoint between the B2 and B3 long perfectors will be about 5-6,000 sheets across a wide spectrum of work.”

Colourstream is within months of its ISO 14001 audit having already attained the equivalent British Standard and it believes the adoption of the long perfector Anicolor with its extremely low start up waste paper levels will fit well with its environmental stance.

“It ticks all the boxes because it needs less power with the quicker makereadies and uses less material and with a new Suprasetter A75 coming on stream at the same time we will be running processless plates,” says Mr Greene.

“Our staff are very enthusiastic about this investment. The production people like the fact we are taking a line which sets a new standard and the sales people and some of our print management customers are pleased because they recognise that this is a press which creates new opportunities. We have had an extremely successful year and we believe this press will further spur growth.”

Colourstream generates turnover of £3.6m currently but it is looking to pass the £4m mark within 12 months. The company says its loyalty to Heidelberg goes beyond the excellent engineering and technology; it rates the advice, service and support very highly.

Following the installation of the company’s first SM 74 long perfector Colourstream hosted a tour of international print magazine editors arranged by Heidelberg. It will have the same open door policy with the SM 52 Anicolor long perfector and it expects there will be great interest at home and abroad.
