Dedicated showcase for AutoID/RFID at CeBIT 2009

Monday 25. August 2008 - Entire Hall 7 devoted to AutoID/RFID industry Solutions Park to showcase hands-on applications Forum features over 50 presentations

Vacation time is travel time. But how do airlines guarantee your checked-in luggage is actually loaded on the right plane? Hybrid tracking systems are the answer – so-called “AutoID-RFID technologies” which guarantee the contact-free identification of products, containers and other objects – in the above case protecting the airlines from expensive loss claims.

But air travel is just one example of where RFID tags are employed for process optimization purposes. Anyone interested in getting an overview of all the different application areas for RFID solutions won’t want to miss CeBIT, the leading exhibition for the digital world, running from 3 to 8 March 2009.

Hall 7 will showcase all aspects of this key technology, focusing on applications-oriented displays. “We are dedicating an entire hall to AutoID/RFID for the first time at CeBIT 2009,” says Dr. Sven-Michael Prüser, Senior Vice-President for CeBIT, explaining that “this is our attempt to underscore the significance of this cutting-edge technology, the potential of which is far from exhausted, as new application areas continue to be found. We are happy to have found a solid partner in the AIM association, which is playing a key role in supporting the AutoID/RFID display sector at CeBIT.”

Occupying around 2,000 square meters of floor space, the main attraction will be the AutoID/RFID Solutions Park, where best-practice examples of industrial AutoID applications will be in the spotlight. Apart from the user industries of aviation, transport, logistics, retailing/wholesaling and production, CeBIT 2009 will also feature solutions for the consumer goods industry and the health-care sector. New topics at the show include the “Internet of the future”, asset management, product lifecycles and industrial property protection.

“The AutoID/RFID Solutions Park has helped CeBIT develop into a leading platform for new ID technologies,” confirms Markus Weinländer of the Nuremberg-based Siemens Automation & Drive company.

At the core of AutoID/RFID Solutions Park is the Auto ID/RFID Forum, where over 50 presentations and panel discussions will be staged during the six-day trade fair.

“CeBIT will provide a platform for hands-on RFID displays, offering new ideas for the international discussion on potential future applications for RFID solutions,” declares Prüser, summarizing the array of offerings planned for Hall 7.

The AutoID/RFID Solutions Park is being produced in cooperation with the German association for the AutoID industry, AIM Deutschland, while “RFID im Blick” magazine will coordinate the Auto ID/RFID Forum.
