Ringier completes the Blick brand transition

Friday 04. July 2008 - Swiss Ringier recently added its flagship publication Blick to the growing list of WoodWing-produced publications, and with Blick am Abend also on board, this makes the Blick brand complete - Sonntags Blick (Sonntags Blick Magazin), Blick and Blick am Abend.

Ringier didn’t reach its 175th anniversary with rash decisions and impulsive management. It is a stable, well-run company with a strong focus on quality, continuity and international expansion. The media company already uses WoodWing for many of its titles, including Schweizer Illustrierte and Cash daily. And now, the country’s leading daily boulevard newspaper Blick, as well as Blick am Abend have been added to that list. WoodWing’s system integrator A&F Computersysteme AG has taken care of the entire transition.

Print and Web
WoodWing was chosen for two main reasons: focus on communication and content. The software delivers seamless internal and external editorial interaction through Web-based interfaces, and instantaneous synchronization of input sources and output channels. The content-centric approach enables a ‘Newsroom 2.0’ for Ringier. The publication no longer has to choose between print or Web. For each story, all channels are possible, depending on content, reader interest and advertising revenues. Multimedia becomes blended media.

Smooth transition
The newspaper switched to a recto/verso concept, integrated the digital image workflow, and introduced fully electronic advertisement and editorial planning. Still, the editor training only took three hours, and layout and workflow training just three days. In the end, weeks of careful planning and detailed preparation resulted in a very smooth and short transition phase. This didn’t come as a surprise though, since A&F boasts over 20 years of experience with the most modern publishing systems of over 500 publications in Switzerland and Germany.
