Harland Simon to install Press Layout System at St. Louis Post – Dispatch, MO

Monday 30. June 2008 - St. Louis Post - Dispatch, MO has opted to install Harland Simon’s press layout system - PRIMA Impositioning.

The new system will come fully configured to be aware of all six Metro presses and their individual printing capabilities. The imposition creation tool provides the user with an extremely fast and accurate method of creating and adapting impositions that their presses are capable of running.

Pete Wagner, Printing Operations Director for St. Louis Post – Dispatch, commented, “With the HS system we are able to create and store multiple press runs and have access to the color positions that each run allows. It’s cataloging feature allows a user to see specific paged sized runs, while highlighting color positions within the file description. This will allow all supervisors experienced or under-experienced the ability to change a run because of last minute color demands or changes. It allows us to share Impositioning knowledge and speed up the Imposition process, you can pick a run that meets your paging and color position demands and print it out within minutes, it’s “tab” run style feature automatically pages out tab positions which saves a great deal of time.

Furthermore, Harland Simon’s computer presentation shows your press on screen which leads to a comfort level to the user, it’s interactive capabilities allows users to see how changes you make on screen will play out in terms of color positions. This capability saves a tremendous amount time vs. hand writing run configurations. To sum it up, after we enter all of our different run configurations into the database, we will save time and gain accuracy.”

As well as Impositioning, St. Louis will receive PRIMA Job Edit [allowing the users to define all aspects of both template and production jobs], PRIMA Titles [the ability to Introduce additional newspaper titles to the system as new products are printed] and PRIMA Planning [enabling the user to allocate production jobs to presses, as well as specifying the imposition, run time and copy requirements for each job on each press].

John Staiano, Senior Vice President for Harland Simon, further commented, “This will be the fifth Lee Enterprise site to take advantage of PRIMA Impositioning to streamline their press set-up and layout storage procedures.”

PRIMA Impositioning can be operated as a stand-alone system or integrated into a comprehensive Press Management System solution.
