Exciting new functionalities to be demonstrated at NEXPO 2008

Monday 30. June 2008 - CCI NewsGate now includes Adobe InDesign, InCopy workflow

CCI Europe has released the latest version of CCI NewsGate, now with Adobe InDesign and Adobe InCopy workflow to address the layout needs of today’s multi-media publishers. Other exciting new enhancements include two-way integration with online publishing systems, support for Mac OS X workstations, and TV integration to AP/ENPS. CCI will demonstrate NewsGate’s new functionalities, and its AdDesk advertising solution, at NEXPO 2008 (booth 2224).

Adobe InDesign and Adobe InCopy workflow using CS3
Now publishers can paginate a full newspaper product using Adobe InDesign and Adobe InCopy. Copy editing with CCI Edit for Adobe InCopy makes it possible to “write-to-fit” against Adobe InDesign article designs.

The enhanced CCI PageDesign for Adobe InDesign solution introduces support for story jump functionality, where text can flow between multiple pages in linked text frames. Users can also open multiple pages in one Adobe InDesign session, and any combination of pages can be edited.

The new version is based on Adobe CS3.

Two-way online integration
CCI NewsGate includes a two-way integration used to communicate with online publishing systems such as Escenic. The integration is designed to also facilitate communication with “home-grown” online publishing environments. The two-way integration enables three different scenarios:

Content packages can be created and completed in CCI NewsGate and exported to the online system. As content is updated in the online system it is also updated in the CCI NewsGate System.

Content and packages are created in the online publishing system’s applications, launched from within CCI NewsGate. All content is automatically stored in a CCI NewsGate story folder and automatically updated, and the article can be reopened and edited from CCI NewsGate.

Online-related content and articles created in the online publishing system independently of the CCI NewsGate System can be automatically imported and stored in a CCI NewsGate story folder.

Support for Mac OS X workstations
The CCI NewsGate client (CCI NewsAccess) is now available for the Mac OS X platform (POWER as well as for the new Mac/Intel platform) using the native Mac Aqua GUI. From the CCI NewsAccess application, content editing applications such as Adobe PhotoShop can be launched.

The Aqua GUI is also available for CCI PageDesign for Adobe InDesign, and CCI Edit for Adobe InCopy. The “CCI Edit for” applications – including Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Flash – are available using the Aqua GUI.

Photo and graphics flow in NewsGate
Photography workflow and handling of photo processing (in terms of toning and conversion) is now an integrated part of CCI NewsAccess. This includes relevant work lists and workflow actions. Photo editors may now apply usage specific soft crops and suggestions for captions to be used further downstream in the respective media channels, as part of the selection and planning process.

In order to benefit from working in the story folder with all relevant information available, an environment has been established to allow users to gather elements to be used in creating a graphic, e.g. pictures, text files, and other graphic components. The external application to be used for building the graphic (such as Adobe Illustrator) can be launched from CCI NewsGate, and all relevant material to produce the graphic piece will be made accessible to the application.

Relevant work lists and actions are available to support a service and approval flow for graphics.

CCI NewsGate TV Integration to AP/ENPS
Several CCI NewsGate multimedia publishing customers also have TV stations. To optimize TV production planning, collaboration between systems, and reuse of content across systems, CCI has developed a two-way integration between CCI NewsGate and TV newsroom systems. Initially used to integrate with the AP ENPS system, this and will be used for future integration with the Avid system as well.

CCI AdDesk to be featured
CCI will also feature its advertising solution, CCI AdDesk, at NEXPO 2008. With CCI AdDesk newspapers can provide their customers with 24/7 access to their complete product portfolio. This state-of-the-art, easy-to-use system expedites the ad booking process and delivers a uniform sales tool that supports the advertising selling process of today’s news organization.

CCI AdDesk offers flexible and extensive support for multiple media advertising including cross-selling into these media. Visitors to NEXPO 2008 can see how CCI AdDesk handles multiple media advertising such as classified ads, ROP ads, inserts, television, radio and Internet ads.
