KODAK NEXPRESS 2500 Digital Production Color Presses Delight Customers of Pacific Printing and Fulfillment

Thursday 26. June 2008 - When it came time for Pacific Printing and Fulfillment in Redwood, Calif., to upgrade its digital production color presses, president and CEO Vince Lepera chose the same supplier he trusted when the company added digital printing years ago.

“I didn’t hesitate—I went back to Kodak,” said Lepera. “I’ve always been a Kodak customer because I believe Kodak’s image quality beats everything else out there.”

Pacific Printing traded its KODAK NEXPRESS 2100 Digital Production Color Presses for the advanced features of the KODAK NEXPRESS 2500 Digital Production Color Press, purchasing two presses to expand the company’s ability to deliver fast turnaround with offset like image quality. The $7.5 million commercial printing, fulfillment and mailing operation runs three shifts 24 hours a day on the new NEXPRESS Presses, completing work for clients including AMO Visx, a world leader in laser vision correction technology.

“Visx is a big client for us, and they have a lot of last minute changes to their printed pieces about LASIK surgery as changes come in from the FDA [Food & Drug Administration], and they have to reprint,” said Lepera. “They’re taking advantage of variable data printing in their marketing, and we can handle all of that for them with the NEXPRESS Presses.”

The KODAK NEXPRESS 2500 Digital Production Color Press delivers 5,000 A4/letter sheets per hour (83.3 pages per minute) on a very wide range of substrates. A fully modular design allows it to be field upgradeable for increased speed (6000 sheets per hour/100 pages per minute), paper feeding capacity, delivery capacity, or the addition of a fifth imaging unit. An array of in-line and near-line accessories improves productivity and supports new applications.

The five color configuration enables the KODAK NEXPRESS Fifth Imaging Unit Solutions: in-line coating, glossing, or a fifth color to expand the printing gamut and reproduce spot colors.

“The in-line coating really protects the quality of a postcard or mailer,” said Lepera. “The images really pop and they’re a lot more vibrant; more lifelike.”

The printing speed and the Fifth Imaging Unit help Pacific Printing expand its business opportunities, Lepera noted. “We can get an order, do 5,000 4 color images with a coating, and the customer can have the job back in an hour,” he said. “This is particularly good for real estate firms that need a limited number of high quality images very quickly, or for last minute jobs. Now when someone wants print on demand, we’re the ones to get the job.”

When customers see the image quality in the jobs from Pacific Printing, Lepera said, the sale naturally follows. “I’ve been able to instill in our customers that they’re going to get quality from Kodak because, in my opinion, Kodak is the leader in image quality,” he said. “I’m very pleased to be a partner with Kodak in growing this business.”
