Superfos continues its satisfactory development

Monday 23. June 2008 - The annual results of 2007 shows increasing turnover and profit ratio. Through acquisitions, organisational changes and a continued focus on innovative, high-quality products, Superfos strengthens the platform as one of Europe’s leading packaging brands

In 2007, Superfos reached an annual turnover of 360.3 mEUR (2006: 342.3 mEUR) and an EBITA of 18.9 mEUR (2006: 13.1 mEUR) constituting an improvement in earnings of 5.8 mEUR. However, adjusted for acquisitions, divestments and other non recurring items the continuing activities show a significant progress in EBITA of 9.2 mEUR (2007: 28.4 mEUR; 2006: 19,2 mEUR) equalling a growth at 48%.

Our markets especially in the Iberian peninsula, Scandinavia, Germany and Poland have shown satisfactory growth rates. Furthermore, our American marked continues its positive trend with a progress of 10% compared to 2006. As a result, we have increased the production capacity of our facility in the US in order to match the growth,” says CEO Hans Pettersson of Superfos.

Strengthening Superfos’ position
In May 2007, Superfos acquired Swedish Mipac – a rapidly growing packaging company with a production of high-quality packaging solutions for the retail food segment in general and ice-cream producers in particular. The acquisition has complemented Superfos’ product range and contributed to strengthening Superfos’ position as a leading supplier of packaging solutions to the retail food market.

“In December 2007 we reached yet another point of our growth strategy by increasing our ownership shares in Galion, Tunisia, to 45%. Galion is the largest plastic packaging manufacturer in Tunisia with double-digit growth rates, and the partnership strengthens Superfos’ position in the fast growing emerging markets in the northern part of Africa,” Hans Pettersson explains.

In order to support the growth strategy, Superfos decided to change the functional organisation structure early in 2007. This resulted in a dynamic regional structure with a number of independent geographical regions capitalizing on synergies and benefiting of a large group. Furthermore, a part of the production has been moved from Denmark to the growing markets in Eastern Europe in order to strengthen Superfos’ competitiveness and match the global development.
