Wide strip steel from Sandvik increases productivity for label dies

Thursday 12. June 2008 - Development by Sandvik Materials Technology in the processing technology of its carbon precision strip steel is bringing productivity benefits to producers of printed labels.

Taking advantage of the investment in new furnace processes, Sandvik is now able to produce an extra wide, polished strip material, which is easier to etch into label dies and maintains excellent flatness after etching.

Currently the only strip steel producer able to offer extra wide material, in widths up to 1200 mm, the major benefit to label producers is greater productivity by cutting more labels in a shorter time. The new material is already being incorporated into a new series of wider (1000 mm) label producing machines.

Sandvik label die strip steel is a hardened and tempered, precision strip steel manufactured in the carbon grade Sandvik 13C. As well as its excellent wear resistance, improved etchability and high quality surface finish, it is produced with close dimensional tolerances and excellent flatness. Maximum flatness deviation across the strip is 0.4% of the nominal strip width.

Sandvik 13C label die strip steel is available in widths between 400 and 1200 mm and thicknesses of 0.45mm up to 1.0mm. It is supplied in coils or as lengths and is suitably protected with oil for transit.
