AMS Launches P3 UV on World Stage at drupa 2008

Thursday 12. June 2008 - Air Motion Systems (AMS), a leading North American manufacturer of high performance UV curing systems, IR/Thermal Air drying systems and related accessories for the printing industry, introduced its third-generation P3 UV system to the global market at drupa 2008.

The P3 marks a significant milestone in the ongoing transition to UV printing taking place in the graphic arts industry. At Graph Expo 2007, the P3 system was the only technology in the UV Coating and Curing category to earn a coveted “Worth-A-Look” award in the independent “Must See ‘Ems” recognition program sponsored by the North American Graphic Arts Show Company (GASC).

“With P3 we are solving the long-term durability and energy questions associated with UV in order to further the adoption of this fantastic, environmentally friendly printing technology,” notes Steve Metcalf, President and CEO, AMS. “Our goal is to increase the ease and availability of UV production – and at the same time reduce energy costs and carbon emissions for printers. In short, P3 is designed to accelerate the delivery of UV’s revolutionary benefits to the graphic communications industry while saving thousands of dollars annually from printers’ bottom lines.”

The P3 UV System introduces a host of new patent-pending features designed to make UV printing easier than ever. Engineering achievements further increase the durability and performance of UV curing on the press and include multi-axial “MAX” motion designed to maximize thermal durability of moving components, “self-healing” shutters that guarantee self-alignment of reflectors in the face of ongoing physical stress in the printing process, and “in-line anodes” that protect against water corrosion of internal components. The new P3 features combine the existing flexibility, efficiency and ease-of-use features pioneered by Air Motion Systems more than eight years ago to create the world’s most advanced in-line UV system.

In addition, the P3 UV System is equipped with enhanced “double-parabolic reflection” geometry shown to reduce UV electrical energy consumption up to 45 percent over comparable UV systems, resulting in a significant savings in annual kilowatt hours and operating costs for printers, and helping them to further reduce their carbon footprint. These findings are backed by actual experiences reported by a number of heavy AMS UV system users in North America.

“Our first P3 installations at printers in North America have been nothing short of astounding” remarks Hans Ulland, AMS Co-founder and Executive VP of Sales. “UV systems have had a reputation for decreasing press life and creating unnecessary downtime, all factors that cost money and limit UV’s true potential. With P3, we are departing from these concerns and providing a ‘bulletproof’ solution to the next generation of UV printers.”
