Sunday 08. June 2008 - A one-stop source for a unique range of cloth, brush and other cleaning technologies and consumables for blankets and cylinders.

During Drupa 2008 Baldwin will be proving its claim to offer a one-stop source of cleaning systems for all offset press markets, with a range that includes products for blanket and print cylinders, guide, ink and chill rollers. This extensive range gives offset printers the freedom to choose the particular cleaning technology that best matches their requirements.

Baldwin has over 30 years of experience in producing automatic cleaning equipment, but the company recognises that innovation must be continuous. The needs of printers and press manufacturers are varied: optimal cleaning for constant high print quality, minimal waste and material consumption, reduction in man hours, easy installation, retrofitting and maintenance, plus good user-friendliness. Ecological factors are also becoming more important, making it vital to use environmentally sustainable cleaning agents, while everyone wants a quick return on investments.

Cloth cleaning system innovations
Baldwin supplies cleaning cloth systems for the sheet-fed, commercial web, newspaper and semi commercial sectors. At Drupa 2008, the company will highlight several innovations. To meet the high standards of blanket cleaning demanded by commercial web and sheet-fed printers, Baldwin is presenting the new ImpactFusion-F system. With this system, offset printers can choose between using dry cloth rolls (Baldwin DryPac) or ready-to-use Baldwin PREPAC rolls. The latter are already impregnated with an environmentally friendly, low-VOC cleaning agent.

For commercial web applications, product washing agents that can be used while the press is running can achieve a reduction of 50 % in cleaning times compared to conventional Baldwin cloth cleaning technology. The advanced programmable control of the unit reduces significantly cloth consumption. This means that rolls will last longer. In addition, innovative spray dispersion technology in the cleaning units ensures minimal use of any required cleaning agents.

The newly developed control system and easy-to-use touch screen contribute greatly to high levels of user-friendliness, as do the fast, ergonomically designed tool-free cloth roll changeover and simplified patented core-system cloth removal facility. In future, Baldwin will also offer the ImpactFusion-F system with fully automated cleaning, where the control system follows dynamic press and application parameters.

ImpactFusion-F NP is also a newly developed cleaning system for newspaper and heatset semi commercial web applications. With ImpactFusion-F NP, Baldwin provides the choice of using PREPAC or dry cloths. This system offers the usual advantages of ImpactFusion-F technology in terms of easy operation, cloth changeover and maintenance plus low wastage. In addition to compact, single cleaning units, the ImpactFusion-F NP system also has dual and multiple units that can clean several cylinders simultaneously.

Brush cleaning systems at the forefront of technology
ProTech CW is the newest version of the highly successful ProTech automated brush cleaning system for commercial web blankets. The only consumables required by ProTech CW are washing agents and water. During operation, a long lasting, lateral-change, brush roller rotates continuously in each cleaning unit. A new spray nozzle system disperses cleaning agent and water evenly on the brush, and the paper and ink residues that have built up across the width of the blankets are quickly removed.

The Protech CW control system delivers a full range of cleaning programmes that can be specifically tailored to different operations such as wash-ups after running up, print run (print ‘ON’/’print ‘OFF’) and running down. Operation is now via the newly developed touch screen, making the system much more user friendly.

ProTech2 NP is the new brush cleaning system for the newspaper and semi commercial print sector. Operation and performance features have been upgraded to meet the latest newspaper and semi commercial print requirements. A pivoted doctor blade in the cleaning units cleans the brush rollers, and this greatly reduces wash-up times and washing agent consumption. Intervals between maintenance sessions are also significantly increased because the wash unit has the benefit of inbuilt self-cleaning.

Baldwin press consumables push system performance to the limit
In line with its manufacturing strategy, Baldwin offers a unique range of cleaning cloths with high absorbency and durability for its cloth cleaning systems. Baldwin supplies dry cloths as either custom-made, read-to-use DryPac rolls or, for users who prefer to wind their own rolls, as JumboDry rolls. The cost effective DryPacE and JumboDryE options are designed for normal cleaning requirements, while DryPacPlus and JumboDryPlus are suitable for the most demanding jobs. There is also a cloth version with an extremely high resistance to linting.

The special PREPAC products are read-to-use, vacuum-packed, cleaning cloths containing a precise amount of low-VOC cleaning agent. Baldwin offers three versions of PREPAC, each designed for different performance requirements and budgets. The range extends from the inexpensive PREPAC E for moderate requirements, via PREPAC Plus with more cleaning power, to the premium quality PREPAC X-treme, designed for extremely high performance. Most PREPAC options are approved by Fogra and the Baldwin portfolio also offers special versions of PREPAC X-treme for printing with UV inks and blanket cleaning for single- and double-sided printing.
