Kroenert Group on the Drupa 2008

Wednesday 14. May 2008 - - Profit Optimization - Simplicity itself

Kroenert Group’s machine exhibits on the Drupa will show that coating and lamination tasks can also mean fast ROI. Retrofitting existing finishing systems is an option, as is integration of these innovative systems in new systems.

1. Sleeve technology for gravure rollers and smooth steel rollers in coating

High costs for completely new rollers and time- and labor-consuming roller changes are now a thing of the past. A single operator can change the engraved coating roller or the smooth roller required for production in a minimum of time. And of course without any special tools.

Thanks to the lower costs for rollers, not more than a quarter of the usual set-up time during roller changes, and less staff, the users of this technology experience a significant competitive advantage.

2. Curtain coater “Slide-Die” with width side adjustment

Multilayer coatings with only one coating system and one dryer are real. The trademarks of coating machines with such a coating system are:

– smaller space requirement
– lower investments
– lower energy costs
– fewer staff

Additionally, only the patented width adjustment for the curtain caster “Slide-Die” allows for fast product changes to different working widths without downtime. Only Kroenert offers such a solution.

The fact that we were granted the process patent for the curtain casters for pressure-sensitive dispersion adhesives also illustrates Kroenert Group’s leading position in this coating technology.

Multilayer coating technology is already a real alternative for many applications, such as:

• aqueous and solvent based pressure-sensitive adhesives (removable labels and adhesive tapes)
• solvent based and aqueous primer and heat seal application in the packaging industry
• inkjet coating, etc.

The Kroenert-Technology-Center (TC) in Hamburg, run by the companies Kroenert, BMB, and Drytec, offer this technology to everyone. Here, we develop and test together with our suppliers and/or users the technology with the perfect fit for the task at hand. The Slot-Die and Slide-Die technology integrated in the TC system allows the application of 1 to 3 layers without intermediate drying process. And the Kroenert TC production line can handle working widths up to 1300 mm at speeds up to 1600 m/min. (See illustration of the TC production line)

In future, the Kroenert Curtain Technology will allow for coating at lower speeds than ever before. Future press releases will keep you informed about these prospects.

The Kroenert Group also introduces:

• The new dryer generation Highdry 250/500
With more power per meter of drying path and improved efficiency, increasing energy costs are less of a problem and investment in longer dryers is not necessary.

• HSR steam humidifier
The new generation of the HSR steam humidifier does not only allow for higher throughput in humidifying. Temperature-sensitive materials like thermal paper are also no longer a taboo for the steam humidifying system by the Kroenert Group.

• High-performance winder generation
A new generation of winders (unwinding and rewinding) does not only allow for highest successful splice rations of up to 99.9 %. The splicing-length optimization system for unwinding, a glue-free core winding system for rewinding and the remaining layer optimization system “Profit” again reduces the share of waste material significantly.

And of course the Kroenert Group can demonstrate all this on the ready-to-run systems in the aforementioned Technology Center.
