Newsprinters’ Knowsley site officially opens

Brian McGee, managing director, Newsprinters

Thursday 08. May 2008 - Newsprinters, the newspaper manufacturing subsidiary of News International today announces the official opening of its Knowsley extension.

Newsprinters Knowsley was opened by Clive Milner, group managing director.

Based near Liverpool, Newsprinters Knowsley is one of three sites that has recently undergone £650 million worth of investment. Newsprinters Knowsley has one line of five MAN Roland Colorman XXL presses, with five units per press and five 4:7:7 folders enabling 120 pages of full colour tabloid or broadsheet equivalent pages to be printed straight at 86,000 copies per hour.

Although designed to future-proof News International’s own newspaper printing requirements, the plants are also available for contract printing.

Brian McGee, managing director of Newsprinters, says: “Now that our three print sites are fully operational, we have Europe’s largest and most advanced newspaper manufacturing operation.

“The scale of and speed of our presses give us an opportunity to generate additional revenue for our business by selling extra press capacity to third-party publishers.”

Newsprinters Knowsley prints News International’s own national titles, The Sun, the News of the World, The Times and The Sunday Times and will print the Telegraph Media Group’s The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph when they come on stream later in the year.
