Packaging

Leading with Competence

Monday 05. May 2008 - OYSTAR Systems - the youngest OYSTAR subsidiary - to exhibit at Interpack 2008

OYSTAR Systems in Kirchlengern, Germany is the youngest company of OYSTAR. The Process & Packaging Group. This provider of various serv-ices related to packaging systems and process technologies will present its core competencies to a large trade public for the first time at Interpack 2008 as part of the overall OYSTAR exhibit at Booth C 80 in Hall 6.
OYSTAR Systems offers clients its competence in three areas:
integration, relocation and optimization of existing systems, ex-tending all the way to acting as the general contractor in change
of projects. Its motto is “everything from one source, worldwide”. Because all communications are channeled through just one com-petent contact, they are greatly facilitated and the client is free to concentrate one its core business. Faster project completion is
also enabled, with lower costs from the outset. The principal indus-tries addressed are dairy products, food, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. A special aspect is that OYSTAR Systems doesn’t just include machines and systems from other OYSTAR Group compa-nies in its concepts; as a system leader with production line com-petence, it also evaluates and integrates third-party technologies and machinery.
All of the engineers working for OYSTAR Systems are from the other 16 OYSTAR companies and possess extensive experience in designing special machines. Consequently, the company can draw on all relevant core competencies and wide-ranging technological and industry expertise in-house. Last but not least, it has access to all required specialists at its sister companies — across systems, industries and borders. In short: the focus is on implementing and optimizing value chains in connection with primary, secondary and tertiary packaging.
In the field of system integration, OYSTAR Systems designs com-plete packaging lines and takes responsibility for installing them. It supervises all project phases, also closely monitoring costs to avoid exceeding the allocated budget, an aspect that is steadily growing in importance. The steps of the process include analysis of client re-quirements, elaboration of a system concept, and support for and monitoring of implementation. They wind up with smooth startup and arranging for appropriate services.
Clients benefit not only from the packaging expertise of OYSTAR Systems, but also from the cross-industry know-how of a corporate group that specializes in packaging machinery and process technol-ogy as its core business activities. Lessons learned from designing and implementing other projects are also incorporated, which helps avoid mistakes and reduce costs. Lines are assembled with ma-chines and peripherals from different manufacturers as expedient – not only to ensure that the client’s wishes are met, but also to achieve the best possible solution and increase system reliability. Factory acceptance tests (FATs) are carried out at all suppliers, and the overall system is first tested at OYSTAR Systems (system FAT) and then tested and commissioned at the client (site acceptance test, or SAT).
This culminates in an integrated solution from one source that im-plements the client’s entire packaging process and value chain.
The second pillar is relocation of individual machines, complex sys-tems or entire production facilities to new buildings or sites. This also calls for extensive expertise and experience, for example to prevent any production holdups. In addition to providing advice on the logistics involved, the experts of OYSTAR Systems also plan this aspect. Disassembly and reassembly are carried out, also integrat-ing new components as required. On request, individual compo-nents or the overall system can also be optimized to ensure smooth, efficient production at the new location.
Major benefits also result from central coordination of all processes required for a relocation. This makes it possible to plan and sched-ule the move to minimize interruptions of production. This goes hand in hand with reliable completion of the relocation project as sched-uled and dependable startup at the new site. Here too, a site accep-tance test is carried out to make sure everything works as it should.
The third field of business is optimization of existing systems. This mainly involves upgrading machines, systems and production facili-ties whose efficiency has dropped off over the years, making sure that they are once again state-of-the-art. The goals here are to re-duce costs, raise product quality and boost capacities.
The first step of an optimization project is to identify and analyze weaknesses. OYSTAR Systems draws up a solution, which may in-volve equipment from different manufacturers, and makes recom-mendations for measures that can range from optimizing individual process parameters to remodeling work. OYSTAR Systems also im-plements these on request.
“Our competitive edge,” says Dr. Gebhard Selinger, managing direc-tor of OYSTAR Systems, “is based on our generic competence as a maker of special machines with cross-industry expertise. We make sure that our clients profit from it.”
