Monday 28. April 2008 - One of the leading Egyptian daily newspapers Al Masry Al Youm has signed a contract with GWS for a turnkey project and the set up of a complete printing operation in 6th of October, a city located near Cairo.

GWS’ area sales executive, Arthur Viguurs, responsible for the Middle East market: “In line with the company’s philosophy to explore a new business model, we are pleased that Al Masry Al Youm has contracted us for the consultancy project management and delivery of a newspaper printing press system including all required auxiliaries and project supervising”. Early 2007 Al Masry Al Youm contacted GWS to discuss its plans for establishing its own printing operation in the Cairo area. Currently the production is sub-contracted to a printer in Egypt, but due to a new business strategy Al Masry Al Youm is now in need of increasing the colour pagination circulation and achieving better deadlines for the production of its newspaper title. In close consultation with IFRA and GWS a plan was made on how to achieve this challenging target. We have convinced Al Masry Al Youm to be the right partner for the overall consultancy and project management in the field of building layout, infrastructure, pre-press, press mailroom and even the submission of a qualified manager to manage and run the printing facilities once the equipment has been installed and commissioned.

Early 2008 we signed a contract with Al Masry Al Youm for this entire operation. The heart of the project, being the supply of a double width newspaper press, is already in full swing. A MAN Mediaman press has already been dismantled at a newspaper printer in Italy and is currently being prepared for shipment to Cairo. In the meantime, a skilled team of GWS project managers is taking care of all communication with the architect in Egypt regarding building infrastructure, cooling, air conditioning and remaining auxiliary equipment. GWS also acts as the advisor and supplier of all pre-press equipment, post press equipment and skilled staff for installation, training and taking into production of the entire printing operation. The MAN Mediaman press system is expected to be supplied in the summer of 2008.
