FFEI to show its latest inkjet printing technologies at Drupa 2008

Tuesday 22. April 2008 - At Drupa 2008 (Hall 7a, B19), FFEI will show its latest developments in single-pass, high speed colour printing.

Drupa marks FFEI’s leading position as inkjet integrator
New single-pass press auxiliary
New digital finishing solution
FFEI has become one of the leading integrators of single-pass inkjet printing, having built upon its extensive expertise in high speed imaging. Focusing on quality, speed and flexibility, the company will show the latest in single pass, high speed four-colour printing.

New CASLON running live

Latest expansion to Nilpeter’s CASLON, incorporating unique FFEI technology, features a 410mm web with a four-colour inkjet printing unit. The printing unit can be used to overprint pre-printed reels or be integrated into a press line with complementary printing processes such as flexo and litho. The inkjet unit consists of 24 optically aligned Xaar 1001 heads with advanced data streaming technology from FFEI that allows delivery of an astonishing one billion ink drops per second.

The control of this volume of ink at web speeds of up to 50 meters per minute is maintained by another unique FFEI innovation, which flash dries one colour before the next is applied. This combination provides true variable data, real time printing in four colours with exceptional quality and total versatility for versioning or personalisation.

The unit will be running live on the Xaar stand, E10 in Hall 4, where it will be printing a combination of labels and photographic quality images.

According to Peter Walsh, Business Manager, inkjet products, “Caslon is just one application for FFEI’s groundbreaking technologies. We have many other opportunities that will mark FFEI’s leadership position in inkjet integration. By applying our deep and rich integration capability to the challenges of imaging onto moving substrates, be they web, sheet or object – we will develop ‘real-world’ products that provide immeasurable benefits to their users.”

Building an ‘Integrator’ portfolio

Flexible single-pass inkjet – Suitable for a number of different applications; both web and sheet-fed, FFEI’s single pass add-on unit can provide versioning and personalisation opportunities to existing presses.

Digital finishing – Providing a new way to add value to print in the finishing area, FFEI has developed an inkjet solution to add an extra sparkle to printed copies. With details to be announced at drupa, this unique digital tool is expected to deliver unparalleled competitive advantage for printers and finishers alike.

Andy Cook, Managing Director, FFEI comments, “This will be our first Drupa as an independent company and we will use the show to demonstrate our parallel objectives as a business. The first will be to maintain manufacturing and software excellence for our partners, such as Fujifilm. The second is to optimise our vast imaging capabilities to bring benefits to end-users across a host of industries, with print as our main focus. In particular, we will demonstrate that Inkjet imaging for printing, packaging & labels has truly come of age as we help usher in a new era for the industry”.

Also at DRUPA FFEI will be demonstrating its skills and capabilities in the area of inkjet design and integration and show real examples of its products and associated customer benefits.

As the integrators and creative expertise behind many of the markets most innovative product solutions, FFEI technology will also feature on other partner stands, with demonstrations and market updates provided in FFEI’s own technology theatre (7a, B19).
