Thursday 10. April 2008 - African digital print service provider Monier 2000 scooped the Vehicle Category award in the FESPA Digital Print Awards 2008, supported by HP.

The competition was extended to the African continent for the first time this year, giving printers from the region their first opportunity to compete with their European and Middle Eastern peers on this level.

Monier 2000 (www.monier2000.com) is a leading indoor and outdoor advertising company in East Africa, with established branches in Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Nigeria. The company won the sought-after Category Winner prize for its project Zantel Lamborghini for cellular telecommunications company Zantel. The project involved printing vehicle branding for public transport on reflective vinyl, using the company’s HP Scitex XLjet3Plus, maximising the branding effect during both day- and night-time. The client was very satisfied with the results.

“We are very excited to have won a FESPA Digital Print Award”, says Managing Director of Monier 2000, Shay Mordo. “We have been branding professional fleets in East Africa for over 10 years, and are pleased that our work can now be appreciated on an international level. Maintaining high quality production and finishing in our market is not an easy task, so it is gratifying to see that our hard work has been recognised in this way.”

Mordo celebrated with other Category Winners at an exclusive dinner event in Geneva on 31st March, where he received his prize certificate from HP’s General Manager for Large Format Printing in Europe, Middle East and Africa, Manel Martinez.

FESPA CEO Nigel Steffens comments: “The Vehicle category is immensely popular with entrants to the Digital Print Awards competition, attracting dozens of entries. However, this year, Monier 2000’s entry truly stood out from the rest in its creative use of the medium to meet the client’s objectives. We’re particularly delighted that that entry came from the African region, which is represented for the first time in the FESPA Digital Print Awards 2008, and we hope Monier 2000’s success will inspire more African wide format printers to enter their work for the 2009 competition.”
