United Way Sydney celebrates expressions of our community through a different lens

Monday 31. March 2008 - This is a photographic exhibition with a difference: 45 individuals supported by our community partners have been given training, a digital camera, and paired up with a volunteer mentor, to take photos of the Sydney they live in. The photographs will be featured in a public exhibition at Customs house from 26-29 March. Please drop in and pay us a visit, the opening hours are listed below.

We all have an image of Sydney in our mind’s eye. We all know what it looks like, how it works and how it feels. But our view of Sydney is just one perspective.

What might Sydney look like through the eyes of a 12 year old boy battling to stay engaged with his family and his school? What about a middle-aged woman living on the street in Woolloomooloo? Or a visually impaired man living in a Western Sydney share house?

These are just some of the people who are taking part in Local Eyes, a unique photographic exhibition created by United Way Sydney.

United Way Sydney is a not for profit organisation that aims to build a stronger Sydney community.

This unique photographic exhibition gives you the chance to see Sydney from a new perspective. It brings together United Way Sydney’s corporate and community partners and selected individuals to help make a real difference to those most in need in our city.
