GBC Commercial Laminating Solutions Group, part of Acco Brands Corporation (NYSE: ABD – news) and world market leader in print finishing equipment and consumables, presents its newest eco-friendly overlaminating and film finishing solutions at Digital FESPA 08, stand L80.

Tuesday 04. March 2008 - GBC Commercial Laminating Solutions Group, part of Acco Brands Corporation (NYSE: ABD - news) and world market leader in print finishing equipment and consumables, presents its newest eco-friendly overlaminating and film finishing solutions at Digital FESPA 08, stand L80.

During this trend-setting exhibition for the screen and digital printing industry to be held in Geneva from April 1-3, the company will also demonstrate its extensive product range of laminators for short-term indoor and long-term outdoor applications as well as its new cold lamination films.

In order to further help customers find profitable solutions with digital print applications, GBC-Professional is strengthening its highly trained team of lamination specialists. Currently, the company is also developing its pan-European technical service structure, and later in the year, a service-agreement will also be set up with a 24/48 hours response time to increase support to the customer-base.

As a world first, GBC will reveal the first prototype of its green film for overlamination applications. Giel Klinkers, Marketing and Sales Director GBC for Digital Print Finishing Solutions, emphasizes the importance of developing new environmentally-friendly laminating solutions. “GBC has always taken environmental issues very seriously. This is the reason why the company has invested a lot of R&D resources in this area and is constantly trying to find new ways of producing in an eco-friendly way to avoid unnecessary wastage. GBC’s green overlaminating film is one of the first products of its kind to be launched in the world”.

During Digital FESPA 08, GBC will offer its full range of Arctic Films and present the GBC inline laminating solution, in combination with the HP Scitex FB6700. This high-productivity digital press for top-quality POP displays and short-run packaging is on display on the HP booth, stand D30. The laminator was specifically developed to use with the HP Scitex FB6700, enabling HP customers to maximize productivity and adding value with its high-quality inline lamination. It can be fully integrated in a single-system workflow, from substrate all the way to final finishing, and seamlessly transforms traditional manual finishing into a fully automated process.

“In the past, lamination was traditionally used to protect outdoor prints against moisture and to offer UV-protection but nowadays, the inks have taken on this role,” says Giel Klinkers. But as lamination continues to enhance the print value by adding a glossier or matter, non-reflective finish to the product as well as offering a higher level of protection, GBC expects solid growth potential in this market segment. With its forever good positioning in the indoor lamination market, the company intends to strengthen its place even further by constantly broadening its range of thermal and cold lamination products”.

Full range of GBC lamination systems and new cold lamination films during Digital FESPA 08

Digital FESPA 08 is the perfect opportunity for GBC to unveil the NEW! GBC ProTrim 45/63, the company’s latest precision rotary cutting system specifically designed and engineered to meet the demands of the digital imaging and finishing markets. Its open-ended design allows it to print trims and laminated materials of up to 2mm thick in unbroken motion, and enables the trimming of extra-large banners in one continuous cut.

The GBC 620os will also be on show. This single-sided laminating system is a highly cost-effective entry-level unit with automated controls that combines sophisticated technology with ease-of-operation and time savings. The GBC 620os is designed for the production of book covers, dust jackets, and packaging, as well as sheeted gift cards, postcards and business cards. It is ideally suited for finishing output from on-demand color digital engines such as Xerox I-gen, HP Indigo, Canon, Océ and Xeikon.

In addition to demonstrations presenting the entry-level GBC 1064 WFt and the GBC 3064 WF for semi-professionals, GBC will present a new innovative film and consumables solution for the wide format printing market.

The GBC 1064 WFt is a wide format cold top-heated up to 50C laminator that delivers high performance, top-quality and cost-effective lamination solutions for the signage, photographic, copy shop and screen print market. It is ideally suited for print-for-pay companies and service providers looking for an entry-level professional machine that produces quality in-house lamination.

Offering superior lamination with virtually wave-free output, the professional thermal GBC 3046WF laminating system offers bi-directional operation and is able to run thermal and cold finishing jobs consecutively for maximum productivity.

All GBC’s laminating systems are extremely modular and equipped with an Advanced Electrical Safety System to protect fingers while feeding the laminator and are, therefore, the safest solutions on the market. As the demand for lamination continues to grow, GBC’s product range provides its customers with a perfect solution while offering the company a reliable growth path.

The popular Signmaker range for store signage, window graphics and vinyl banners for short-term outdoor use applications will also be on display during Digital FESPA 08. GBC will present the new GBC Clear Accushield film for photo-finishing solutions. This new film is 100% clear and improves UV-properties by adding a glossy coating to boards and supports printing directly on to the substrate in order to increase the mechanical properties and scratch resistance. Available in gloss and matt finish, the Signmaker-range is specifically developed to run the new GBC Accushield Clear.

As the latest addition to its Arctic HV range, the GBC Arctic HV semi-gloss offers a finish that fits in between the Arctic HV gloss and satin-matt. Due to the growing need of cost-effective cold overlaminating solutions, GBC-Professional has developed the GBC Arctic Universal gloss & matt films, which are well suited for in- and outdoor short-term applications. With its light sand structure, the Arctic Sand 80? is a very cost-effective cold overlaminating film developed for the POS market. With a guarantee of up to 5 and 7 years, that is only applicable when combined with a direct printable vinyl like GBC Sureprint direct vinyl choice, the Arctic Choice and Arctic Select are the perfect solutions for long-term outdoor applications.

“As the demand for shorter print runs continues to increase year after year, so has the need for printers and finishing houses to find quality lamination solutions that allow for speed, efficiency and fast turn-around times,” concludes Giel Klinkers In an industry where the appearance of printed matter is so important, GBC’s extensive range of laminating systems is there to focus on the customer’s specific needs and requests.”

Narrow-format solutions

As a result of the growing demand for narrow-format laminating solutions, GBC-Professional will launch the GBC Catena-series. Available in widths of 35/65 and 105 cm, this very cost-effective double-sided laminating system allows smaller reprographic-shops, copy-shops and facilities- management to finish their print-output in-house. GBC-Professional also provides the NAP-2 films in different thicknesses and finishes.
