Tuesday 26. February 2008 - - provides valuable systems integration and automation - enhances internal communications - successful partnerships with numerous Gannett operations

When Gannett Company, Inc.’s Springfield News-Leader, Missouri, decided to upgrade its digital workflow management solution, the choice was simple according to the newspaper’s Production and IT director, Tom Tate.

“Its ease of integration, high functionality and reliability, as well as the company’s excellent support reputation established browser-based ProImage NewsWay as clearly the best productivity-based solution for the Springfield News-Leader.

“ProImage has strong customer satisfaction throughout the newspaper industry, as well as successful partnerships with numerous Gannett operations,” stated Mr. Tate.

“Expanding print publications combined with an ability to print up to 80-consecutive full color broadsheet pages requires fast and accurate file processing – and NewsWay consistently provides that – and is the critical link in our production workflow.”

NewsWay is a browser-based software solution that provides end-to-end integration from planning, pre-press and proofing through to CtP and the press’ control systems, providing one easy-to-use tracking and digital workflow management tool.

As well as workflow management, at the Springfield News-Leader NewsWay provides production tracking, softViewing, page and plate approvals, furniture and text burning, deadline monitoring and priority scheduling. It also enhances inter-departmental communications through its annotation, conference, and automated event notification features.

Systems Integration
According to the newspaper, NewsWay provides valuable systems integration and automation.

“By using the ad stitching feature within NewsWay, ad and editorial content can be submitted separately and positioned automatically using coordinates provided by our Managing Editor’s ALS edition planning software,” states pre-press manager, Erik Jackson. “This allows the operator to receive and review pages that have been processed through the entire workflow without manual ad placement or positioning.”

“The ability to view jobs electronically as re-combined TIFFs after ink-optimization and after the RIPs, helps to significantly reduce the cost of printed proofs, while support for CtP, faster processing of files throughout the workflow and previews of completely processed files for easy error detection are all benefits that the software brings to the newspaper,” he adds.

Other systems with which NewsWay provides integration at the Springfield News-Leader include QPS editorial pagination, Mindset LivePagination classified pagination, GMG Ink Optimizer, Agfa’s Producer OPI, OneVision Asura for preflighting and PDF correction and Western Lithotech’s DiamondSetter 610S2P CtP.
