ECRM Helps Print Multicolor to Close a Deal With One of Romanias Largest Newspaper Publishers

One of Romanias leading print companies, Print Multicolor, has praised ECRM and its Bucharest-based dealer, NESTRA Systems, for facilitating a deal with one of the countrys largest newspaper publishers. As a leading manufacturer of imaging systems, ECRM supplied Print Multicolor with a MAKO NEWS, which represented the companys first and hugely significant transition to CTP.

In 2005 platemaking became a real bottleneck for our business and created huge issues, losing us far too much time and money. So, we turned to ECRM for help. As a renowned and established CTP provider we felt comfortable making an investment in their equipment.

That decision represented the moment when everything changed for us. All of a sudden printing was so easy. We were finally able to feed our web machines properly and a set of four 605x850mm plates took only minutes to produce. Based on performances like this and our massively increased production volumes, we were able to secure an historic deal with one of the countrys largest newspaper publishers.
Established in 2004 Print Multicolor started out as a book printing company and by 2005 was successfully producing about 15% of Romanias national book market, plus a few local newspapers. As the companys share in the newspaper market increased, so too did Print Multicolors issues with plate production, which was becoming increasingly difficult and time consuming with the added pressure of accommodating higher volumes.
Having decided to convert to CTP technology, according to Ovidiu, the company was delighted that it chose ECRM, because, not only did this CTP technology provide us with speed and quality – one vital feature about ECRM machines is their incredible reliability. This is paramount to any newspaper business and were glad we chose ECRM.
The small footprint, easy installation process and simple-operational approach of the MAKO NEWS enabled fast CTP implementation. ECRM engineered this Violet CTP platesetter to provide the high-quality colour production required by newspaper publishers. With a flexible format and fast, easy operation, it accommodates the most popular range of web widths (up to a maximum format of 635mm x 960mm or 25.0″ x 37.8″), and is ideal for deadline-driven publishing environments, as it is capable of producing over 78 Berliner plates per hour at 1200 dpi without complex load/unload cycles.
Targeted for most single-width newspaper presses, the MAKO NEWS provides added flexibility with optics designed to deliver eight resolutions from 1016 to 2540 dpi and three anamorphic resolution sets (1016 x 2032 dpi, 1200 x 2400 dpi, and 1270 x 2540 dpi).
With the first installation proving such a success, two years later in August 2007, Print Multicolor decided to expand its CTP capabilities with another of ECRMs machines, the MAKO 4x. Proving a smart business move, this purchase has enabled the printing company to operate at full capacity. By running three offset machines and using both CTPs, Print Multicolor now produces an average of 300 plates per day, including book covers and high-quality commercial work on their recently purchased Speedmaster GTO.
Ovidiu Ambros states We didnt need convincing to choose ECRM again when we opted for a second CTP device. When you consider that we exposed plates for almost two years on the MAKO NEWS alone, without any backup whatsoever, and we never had any problems. This was a clear demonstration of ECRMs reliability, so we opted to enhance our production further with a MAKO 4X.
The MAKO 4x is one of the first Violet CTP devices in the world to offer commercial printers a clear path to chemistry-free technology.
