Toppan Printing is selected as one of the “100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World” for the second year running

Thursday 31. January 2008 - Toppan is selected as the only company from the Japanese printing industry and receives praise for its activities to contribute to society

Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. (hereafter Toppan Printing; Head office: Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo; President & CEO: Naoki Adachi) has been recognized as one of the “Global 100: Most Sustainable Corporations in the World” for the second year running.

Based on research data provided by Innovest Strategic Value Advisors of the US, since 2005 Canada’s Corporate Knights Inc. has evaluated the sustainability of over 1800 of the world’s companies from various business fields and subsequently announced the top 100.

The list of 100 companies selected for 2008 was announced on January 23 to coincide with the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting held in Davos, Switzerland. The companies selected were subject to detailed comparative analysis of performance related to the environment, society and governance, and recognized as the best in the world. Toppan Printing has been selected again in 2008 after being the first company from the Japanese printing industry to be selected in 2007.

Toppan Printing established its Ecology Center in 1991 and was quick off the mark in implementing environmental initiatives. Based on its Corporate Philosophy of “contributing to a fulfilling lifestyle as a mainstay of information and culture”, to fulfill its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) the company has proactively pursued activities in line with the concept of “triple bottom lines” for the balanced development of society, the environment and the economy.

In terms of contributions to society and culture, since 2000 Toppan Printing has operated the Printing Museum, Tokyo, which presents the history and culture of printing, and Toppan Hall, a concert hall for classical music. The company is involved in activities that include contributing to local communities, such as by receiving local elementary schools for integrated study and holding Lunch time Concerts that are free of charge.

At the same time as strengthening CSR related initiatives, Toppan Printing will continue to pursue further sustainability and aim to be a “a strong company that is respected and trusted by society” both in Japan and overseas.

Toppan Printing will hold Toppan Charity Concerts at the Toppan Hall on February 8 and 9, 2008 to support efforts to raise literacy rates among children with limited access to education. From January 26 to February 15, a panel exhibition is being held at the Toppan Koishikawa Building, presenting Toppan Printing’s contribution to international society in supporting efforts to raise literacy rates.
