Canon resolves to help businesses improve efficiencies and save on print costs in 2008

Thursday 24. January 2008 - Canon UK, leader in digital imaging technology, has launched three new black and white multifunctional printers (MFPs) with smart colour capabilities. Canon’s latest MFPs are designed to sit easily within a business’ existing printer fleet to create a balanced deployment of desktop and multifunctional printers

Many organisations take the opportunity to evaluate businesses processes at the start of a new year and by reviewing print strategy and taking a balanced approach – i.e. printing the right documents from the right devices – organisations can benefit from up to 70% savings on print costs.

New devices help businesses cut back on unnecessary colour printing and create a balanced print strategy for improved efficiencies and cost savings

Canon’s new high-speed and highly durable iR3180C/Ci, iR5880C/Ci and iR6880C/Ci devices are designed to meet the needs of small workgroups in corporates and SMEs that primarily print in black and white, but occasionally need to print in colour. Canon’s smart colour capabilities ensure that potentially expensive colour printing is controlled within organisations, which are still able to benefit from colour when required.

The new devices offer high speed printing, with the iR5880C/Ci printing at 58ppm and the iR6880C/Ci at 68ppm in black and white, and both printing at 16ppm in colour. The lower-priced iR3180C/Ci offers speeds of 31ppm in black and white, and 7ppm in colour. All three new models are highly robust, offering improved levels of reliability through rugged body construction and highly durable print drum technology.

Tracey Fielden, Head of Office Marketing, Canon UK, said: “The New Year is always a time for evaluating business strategy and costs and with economic uncertainty on the horizon, any ways of reducing costs in 2008 will be welcomed. For businesses that work predominantly in black and white, but need to print in colour now and again, a colour printer is not necessarily a cost-effective option. Canon has introduced an improved range of MFPs for businesses that occasionally need colour functionality. Having the ability to print in colour is crucial in modern businesses but being able to control the use of this colour is also key to keeping print costs down, and these devices enable IT managers to do just that.”

Users can choose to either encrypt or delete data on the new devices’ hard disks, ensuring the security of sensitive information. In addition, the iR3180C/Ci, iR5880C/Ci and iR6880C/Ci are Common Criteria Certified – an international security standard*. This ensures that business-critical data is kept secure, which is of paramount importance for organisations in the government, education, finance and legal sectors.

Canon’s iR3180C/Ci, iR5880C/Ci and iR6880C/Ci are easy to implement into a current fleet of printers, and enable IT managers to control print costs through iWAMS (Access Management System), which sets print permissions so that only specified personnel or workgroups are able to access finishing and colour options. Personal authentication also makes it possible to track users’ print histories, to more effectively manage the consumption of print resources.

Tracey Fielden continues, “Building on Canon’s impressive heritage in the MFP and colour sectors, Canon’s new iR3180C/Ci, iR5880C/Ci and iR6880C/Ci devices bridge the gap between Canon’s purely black and white and colour portfolios and perfectly support a company’s balanced print deployment requirements.”
The new Canon iR3180C/Ci, iR5880C/Ci and iR6880C/Ci models are available across the UK & Ireland from January 2008.
