U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing Enlists Avineon to Provide Information Security Support

Tuesday 15. January 2008 - Avineon, Inc., a successful provider of IT, engineering, geospatial and program management services, today announced it has been awarded a contract with the Department of the Treasury, Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP), to provide IT security program management and operations support, certification and accreditation, and compliance monitoring support for new and existing systems.

This is one of several major task order wins for Avineon under its IRS Total Information Processing Support Services (TIPSS-3) contract.

The BEP prints billions of Federal Reserve Notes for delivery to the Federal Reserve System each year. In addition to currency, the BEP produces several other security documents such as portions of U.S. passports, materials for Homeland Security, military identification cards and Immigration and Naturalization Certificates. The BEP relies on its computer-based systems to support its core business activities and processes such as security, procurement, financial management, product accountability, human resources management, engineering, research, product development and maintenance.

“Avineon’s long-standing relationship with the Department of the Treasury as a trusted service provider creates a partnership well suited for continued success,” stated Karlu Rambhala, president and CEO of Avineon. “We’re pleased to have the opportunity to help BEP achieve its important core mission to design and manufacture high-quality security documents that meet customer requirements for quality, quantity and performance as well as deter counterfeiting.”

The BEP maintains a number of systems including local area network/wide area network, IBM mainframe, BEP management information system (BEPMIS), public sales, enterprise architecture, manufacturing support and systems that support physical security at the BEP’s two locations in Washington, D.C. and Fort Worth, Texas. There are also minor systems that are part of and covered by the general controls of BEP’s major systems and that may provide additional security controls.

Under the TIPSS-3 contract, Avineon provides expertise in all three TIPSS-3 functional areas including information systems services, system security services and strategic business services. Other TIPSS-3 wins include multiple task orders for applications and web development efforts with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
