Balterio presents its first water-repellent digitally-printed laminate collection at Domotex

Monday 16. January 2017 - At this year’s edition of flooring fair Domotex, Balterio presents its first water-repellent collection of digitally-printed floors. The brand, now a member of the UNILIN family, has developed this technique, to create the most natural looking laminate flooring in breathtaking designs, ultimately also per client request.

Over the past few years, Balterio has invested heavily in the finest technologies to develop a best-in-class technique: digital printing on laminate. Its new and customized production line features an ultra-HD printer, opening up a new world of possibility in true-to-life pattern reproduction that gives the laminate an ultra-natural look. At Domotex 2017, the annual flooring fair in Hannover, Balterio will present its very first water-repellent digitally-printed laminate collections at the UNILIN stand.

The many benefits of digital printing

Digital printing is a rather new technique in the flooring industry. Whereas traditional methods use a large cylinder that prints the design onto paper to be pressed on an HDF board afterwards, in digital printing, an advanced inkjet printer is used to deposit the pattern directly onto the HDF-board. There is no actual contact with the planks, eliminating the transmission of small indentations onto the laminate. Furthermore, this technique is far more flexible: a switch in designs comes without material loss and with only minimal delay; all it takes is to upload the new design into the system. Therefore, digital printing allows for collections on demand.

Private collections

The creation of laminate collections on demand is Balterio’s strong suit. In this respect, the introduction of digital printing was a logical step toward making the brand future-proof. Ruben Desmet, General Manager Laminate at UNILIN, confirms: “Balterio is known for its quality and flexibility. Thanks to digital printing, we can go further than ever before in the customization of laminate floors. Clients can choose both the thickness and pattern of the planks – an unprecedented level of co-creation in the world of flooring.”

Exclusive premiere at Domotex

At Domotex 2017, Balterio will present its first ever water-repellent digitally-printed laminate collection: Grande. The Grande collection features extra-long (2.05 m) and extra-wide (16.7 and 24 cm) planks in 16 different designs. Certain designs will be available in both widths that can be combined for an even more authentic look. On top of that, a urethane lacquer finish gives the laminate a matte appearance as well as a soft and warm feel. Finally, the HydroShield technology makes all Grande floors highly water-repellent. Grande will be available from March 2017.

A second digitally-printed collection will be on display at Domotex: Expressions. This collection, with the tagline “dare to express yourself”, stands for new, bold and daring designs such as the very popular fishbone pattern. Both new Balterio collections can be found at the UNILIN stand, hall 6, booth F44.
