The UK based Camping and Caravanning Club has received the ‘Highly Commended’ award in the ‘Launch (new format)’ category at this year’s Digital Magazine Awards in London. Additionally, two other WoodWing customers also received the same award in the Customer Magazine category – the agency Medium Rare Content in Australia for the Qantas Magazine App and The National Theatre in London for its digital magazine Backstage. All magazines were created with WoodWing’s HTML5 authoring tool, Inception, for the production of responsive content.

The highly regarded app of the The Camping and Caravanning Club in the UK provides beautifully designed content to optimize engagement with their audience.

The Digital Magazine Awards, which is seen as the most prestigious event within the international digital publishing sector, rewards creativity, innovation and commercial success.

The highly regarded award was given for The Camping and Caravanning Club’s new magazine app, which was launched in this year. The beautifully designed app allows the club to optimize engagement with their audience by providing members with magazine content anytime, anywhere.

Camping & Caravanning is the monthly magazine for The Camping and Caravanning Club. At 111 years of age it is the oldest magazine in the world for all forms of camping. Its first magazine app was launched in February 2014 and the magazine currently has a combined print and digital circulation of 290,000 a month.

The club developed their new app with the assistance of The App Lab using WoodWing’s Inception digital content creator. The App Lab designed the initial templates, and managed the team through the process of migrating from InDesign workflow to HTML.

By incorporating Inception’s HTML5 responsive capabilities, a solution was provided to easily create and distribute the magazine articles to all of the Club’s members.

Simon McGrath, Editor-in-Chief, said: “Together with our partners The App Lab, we’ve been working hard to relaunch our iPad edition on to a new platform so that it has a greater depth of content and is available on both iPad and iPhones plus Android tablet and smartphone devices. Our Highly Commended award is testament to the hard work and improvements we’ve made to the mobile edition, which is also now free to members.”

By using WoodWing’s Inception HTML5 publishing system with Adobe Experience Manager, The Camping and Caravanning Club is now able to streamline their content creation process and easily publish the digital editions of their magazines.

Two more winning apps created with Inception
The Qantas customer magazine as well as the magazine Backstage of the National Theatre in London have also been awarded. Both publications are also created with WoodWing Inception and have already received several awards.
