Textile Printing one of the key areas at SGI Dubai 2016

Tuesday 21. July 2015 - Print service providers will be able to experience a host of new and innovative applications and solutions at Sign & Graphic Imaging 2016

From woodblock printing to screen to digital printing: Print of text, images or patterns on textiles has come a long way. Nowadays, every year 29.5 billion square meters of fabric are printed. It is predicted that the market grows to 32.5 billion square meters in 2017. The importance of digital textile printing has grown in the last years from 420 million square meters in 2013 to an estimated more than one billion square meters in 2017. According to studies, the market for digital textile printing will grow at annual rates between 26.1% to 39% till 2020. An estimated 52,800 digital textile printing solutions were installed worldwide at the end of 2014.
The fashion industry increasingly experiences time-to-market pressures as well as the demand for individuality of designs resulting in a high willingness to adopt digital textile printing as preferred production method. Trends are changing faster which in turn means that print runs are getting shorter thus enabling a cost-effective production with digital inkjet printers. New applications such as interior design, printing on curtains, carpets, upholsteries and even furniture, driven by the development of dedicated devices incorporating highly sophisticated print heads, different technologies and inks are changing the market. Outdoor applications such as flag printing experience growing demand.
Digital textile printing enables market participants to significantly reduce their environmental impact. According to studies, inkjet technology delivers savings of more than 75% in terms of water use and more than 40% in electricity use in comparison to traditional printing. Detailed and high quality image and design reproduction as well as choice in colours and details are tipping the scales towards digital printing. The wider adoption of digital textile printing towards mainstream production technology, and the development of faster and more sophisticated devices, has increased competitiveness manifold.
“SGI Dubai 2016 is very much the show to be for all involved in the textile printing and manufacturing process. Apart from textile decorations – be it in-store, hospitality and retail, in the home, outdoor, be it the fashion industry, interior and exterior design and many more – the host of possible applications is just breathtaking. Dubai, the UAE and the MENA region, due to its unique innovativeness and environmental consciousness, as well as business opportunities arising from the upcoming Expo 2020, is primed to adopt and implement new technologies very fast. I am sure that the all-encompassing advantages that digital textile printing has to offer the market will soon be seen all around. The easy move from unique and individual designs and one-to-one prints to large-scale production enables printers to cater to all kinds of requests for textile applications thus increasing business opportunities. At SGI Dubai 2016 we have set aside a whole area for textile printing encouraging exhibitors and visitors to give their creativity room to expand beyond traditional textile print applications”, says Mr. Sharif Rahman, CEO, IEC.
