South China Morning Post chooses Méthode digital solution

Monday 30. March 2015 - The award-winning daily will integrate its print and digital content operations using EidosMedia's advanced multi-channel publishing platform.

Based in Hong Kong, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) is an internationally recognised English-language newspaper that commands a global readership. With a 112-year history, the SCMP is published daily in print, online, tablet & mobile apps and e-paper editions. Digitally accessible through a metered paywall, the SCMP is the community of record for Hong Kong with an expanding coverage on China. A number of magazines and supplements are distributed together with the SCMP.
The SCMP Group, a leading newspaper and magazine group in Asia and publisher of the SCMP newspaper, has selected EidosMedia’s advanced digital publishing platform, Méthode, in order to speed up the transformation of the Post in the digital era.
“News operations are evolving rapidly on the digital front. By integrating Méthode with our operations, SCMP will be well positioned to converge all of our units on to a single platform and create synergies across news desk, layout, photo and production units,” said Mr. Brian Rhoads, Managing Editor of the SCMP. “We look forward to Méthode unlocking opportunities that can further advance our position as a highly sought-after news source as well as providing a firm basis for developing our digital portfolio going forward.”
In addition to Méthode’s core editorial and workflow functions, the SCMP will also adopt the latest release of Méthode’s social media tools. These allow journalists to conduct power searches of social media from within the editorial workspace and post their work to the main social networks in standard format. Response and reaction to the publication’s posts to social media are monitored in real time using Méthode ‘s social media dashboard.
Additionally, Méthode will provide:
• video and rich media synergies
• full language support for traditional and simplified Chinese
• social tools which also will integrate with Weibo and WeChat
• a platform that will serve staff in HK as well as bureaux across Greater China
“The Post has a rich multimedia news operation,” said Lodovico de Briganti, general manager of EidosMedia Asia-Pacific.” Méthode will make its news-creation processes more efficient and give it hands-on control of reader traffic and engagement in the social space.”
The new platform will serve around 300 editorial staff in the SCMP ‘s Hong Kong newsroom.
