SESAAB group starts production with Méthode

Monday 03. June 2013 - Regional Italian publishing group SESAAB has begun production of its print and online editions with EidosMedia's publishing platform, Méthode.

With a portfolio of daily and weekly newspapers, Web portals and TV broadcasting interests, the SESAAB group plays a prominent role in the media panorama of one of Europe’s most prosperous regions.
The decision last year to consolidate production of the group’s daily and bi-weekly newspapers onto a single editorial platform led to the choice of EidosMedia’s multiple-media solution, Méthode. As well as bringing together the Web and print workflows of each title, the move to Méthode was intended to allow the papers to share pages of common national and political news, avoiding unnecessary duplication of effort.
The first of SESAAB’s titles, the bi-weekly Cittadino di Monza, has now begun production of both print and Web editions with the new platform.
An innovative approach to the pagination of the print edition allows journalists to play an active role in page design. The ‘assisted layout’ approach, uses page templates divided into a number of story areas. For each page area, journalists toggle through a range of alternative story shapes until they find a suitable text and picture shape for their story. They can then write the story to fit the shape. Compatibility between adjacent shapes is built into the page template, alllowing attractive layout variations to be generated by journalists without graphic skills.
Editor of the Cittadino, Giorgio Bardaglio commented: “The move to the new system and the graphic makeover required hard work, but now everything has come together we hope that the new paper will meet the approval of our readers,”
“Integration and content sharing are the key to the future for regional groups like SESAAB,” said Cristina Bergese, EidosMedia professional services manager for Italy. “We are confident that the power and flexibility of Méthode will allow the group to continue meeting the needs of its readers, productively and profitably.”
