BILD initiates an evolution on the iPad

Wednesday 08. December 2010 - BILD HD offers an entirely new way of experiencing the news and delivers the best of all worlds in one product: print, online, mobile and games.

BILD has invented a new way of experiencing the newspaper. In its very own application for the Apple iPad, which is available as of now, BILD offers the best of all worlds: print, online, mobile and games. Designed for users of Apple’s tablet PC, BILD HD is a stand-alone product, the content of which is modeled after the structure of Europe’s biggest daily newspaper, while delivering the speed and up-to-date character of the online world. In this iPad app, BILD has invented a completely new way of telling stories, one that employs multimedia extension, videos, animations and numerous fun effects.

BILD HD is available in the iTunes App Store effective immediately. The app purchase comes with a one-week subscription for only €0.79. After that, every issue can be purchased for a standard price of €0.79. With the BILD iPad app, users can also purchase a one-month subscription for €12.99, a three-month subscription for €34.99 and a one-year subscription for €129.99.

BILD developed its own production tool to support the innovative implementation of its news app. Employing technologies from the gaming industry, BILD HD presents the news in a completely new way. Among other things, it employs a “physic engine” to simulate realistic movements and interactions. At the beginning of next year, BILD will make this comprehensive production tool available as a freely accessible open-source solution on the Internet.

Kai Diekmann, publisher and editor-in-chief of BILD: “With the new iPad app, BILD can be experienced in a completely new way. Being able to manipulate movement, time and space makes it possible to offer BILD in a way that can be grasped and heard. Being every bit as up-to-date as BILD.de and featuring content from the regional issues, this app brings BILD even closer to readers, in terms of multimedia experience.”

Donata Hopfen, Managing Director of BILD Digital: “Following the successful introduction of the BILD iPhone app as a paid-content offering, we have now come out with the BILD iPad app, which embodies the highest standards, internationally as well. Thus, we have raised Axel Springer’s paid-content initiative to a new level.”

Volkswagen AG has booked the BILD’s mobile news app for the iPad as an exclusive advertising partner in the launch phase. Thus, it will run various innovative types of ads in the time from now to December 31. Neofonie Mobile GmbH, Berlin, handled the technical implementation of the BILD iPaid app.

The market introduction of BILD HD is being supported by a marketing campaign in the print, online and TV media (agency: Jung von Matt/Alster).
