Finishing & Screen Printing

Horizon will show ten new machines and devices at booth 2637

Monday 16. November 2009 - September 11 to 16 - Horizon at Print 09 in Chicago

Standard Finishing Systems as Horizon`s distributor for the USA and Canada will show a portfolio of highly-automated new finishing solutions at Print 09 in Chicago, September 11-16.
Standard will showcase 985 square-meter (10,600 square-feet) innovative binding machines under the theme “Think Intelligent Automation” in booth #2637 at Print 09. Over fifty live applications will be running to demonstrate the power of post-press automation. Horizon solutions will also be shown throughout the halls at Print 09 in cooperation with nearly a dozen printer vendor, mailroom, verification and other graphic arts partners.

Six new folding machine solutions
Show visitors will see many new applications for folding machines. Horizon showed the first automated folding machine AFC-504AKT in 1999 on the CeBit in Hannover/Germany. Horizon has sold more than 3000 folding machines worldwide and the business is still growing quickly.

Cross / Parallel Mobile Knife Unit KTU-40
The device is for the buckle folding machine AF-406A and its second unit T-406A. The unit can be used as a cross knife or as a parallel knife. It is possible to produce from A3 to A5 DM fold. Two buckles below knifes can be attached. Standard is one buckle and two deflectors. A kicker is available as an option. Fast production with up to 180 meter (600 feet) per minute is possible. The whole unit can be tilted, to provide exact delivery for small products.

Press Roller Unit PR-40
This powerful press (4000 Newton) can be attached on all Horizon folding machines with 400, 540 and 560 mm infeed width.

Gate Fold Buckle GFB-40
This device completes Horizon`s buckle folding machine AF-406A. A special feature is the automated buckle stopper set-up.

Scoring Navigator AF-SN56
This ingenious device helps the operator with setting up the buckle-buckle folding machine AF-566T4F. Horizon`s aim is always to reduce make-ready times and to make adjustments as easy as possible. The setting of combination folding machines is very easy and fast compared to buckle folding machines. Here is a precise adjustment of the scoring necessary, which can be differing from one job to the next. Horizon`s Scoring Navigator shows the operator how to set the tools on the scoring shafts. The setting is done in a convenient position outside the folding machine. It is also possible to measure the scoring set-up with a laser and save it into memory. The Scoring Navigator AF-SN56 will speed changeovers and assure a fast return on investment.

Table Top Folder PF-40
This folder has a reliable air suction feeding system and automated buckle stop settings. Up to ten jobs can be memorized for repeat jobs. Four paper sizes and six fold patterns are saved as preset values. Other sizes and folding patterns can be easily adjusted.

Press Stacker with Pile Delivery PSX-56
This will be a highlight of the Print 09. The PSX-56 is a combination of delivery and high-speed stacker. The intigrated pressing unit has a force of 10,000 Newton (about one ton) on two rollers. A seperate reject tray is used for incorrectly folded sheets or proof samples for to check fold quality. The PSX-56 can be used with all combination folding machines of the AFC-series, buckle folding machine AF-544 and AF-566F and its second unit T-564F and the mobile knife fold units MKU-54 and MKU-54T. It can be also connected with machines of other manufacturers as long as their delivery height is between 550 and 950 mm.

Two new machines have been developed in cooperation with the Swiss digital and web finishing specialist Hunkeler.
“The marriage of legendary Horizon and Hunkeler engineering, from one trusted supplier, brings new levels of integration and performance to every high-speed continuous-feed production print platform, both black-and-white and color” said David Reny, Vice President of Standard Finishing Systems. “Customers have been asking for highly-reliable in-line finishing to help them eliminate manual touch-points and off-line steps. These new developments will help commercial printers, direct mailers, financial printers, publishers, banks, utilities and service bureaus achieve production cost models that have been out of reach with existing technology.”

Inline Folder AF-566F Digital
The new AF-566F Digital in-line signature folder—featuring six parallel and six optional cross plates—will also be shown in-line with the Hunkeler UW6 unwinder, FM6 folder/merger and CS6-II rotary double-cutter, for operation at speeds up to 180 m/min. The advanced folder automation and touchscreen control brings ultra-quick set-ups to high-speed continuous-feed print platforms, allowing complex, variable-data direct mail pieces to be produced in one pass.
The folder and cutter have been tightly integrated with precise speed matching. The advanced automation on both units supports ultra-quick changeovers and the ability to memorize recurring jobs for instant recall and set-up. The system also includes an innovative slide-away register table for added flexibility, so the folder can be operated off-line when the print engine is idle or delivering stacked output to the high capacity stacker.

Inline Saddlestitcher StitchLiner6000 Digital
The new StitchLiner 6000 Digital high-speed saddlestitcher will be integrated with Hunkeler’s UW6 unwinder and CS6 rotary cutter for production of up to 6,000 high-quality booklets per hour, in-line with continuous feed printers. Based on the well-established StitchLiner technology platform, the solution offers in-line cover feeding and non-stop booklet production on a very wide range of paper stocks at up to 180 m/min, on pace with the speed of industry-leading continuous-feed printers. Variable sheet-count booklets can be produced using barcode scanning or mark reading.
The system features icon-based color touchscreen control and fully automated set-up. The ease-of-use of the system allows the same operators who are running the printer to easily manage post-press functions. In-line continuous-feed saddlestitching is considered an important growth area, with applications in the financial print, insurance, healthcare, and commercial print segments.

Single Clamp Binder BQ-160
This single-clamp binder is the ideal for short runs. Machine speed is 180 cycles per hour when binding with cover and 120 cycles per hour when binding without cover. A color touch screen makes the operation very easy. The set-up is automated.

JDF Network Flow pXnet
This new software will replace Horizon`s i2i-system. pXnet can exchange jdf data with upstream devices. pXnet offers ultimate efficiency of production and total bindery management by minimising downtime at make-ready, reducing waste, increasing staff flexibility and allowing constant work planning, job information and post calculation.
