Sedas Printing Upgrades Obsolete CTP with new CRON-ECRM and Blackwood Plates

Thursday 05. April 2018 - Established in 1984, Sedas Printing upgraded their CTP to the CRON-ECRM 36G. Their old system was becoming obsolete, and was at the end of its life, so the company started to look at alternative options. And while the CTP system itself was a draw, for owner Seda Kangani, the real selling point was the plates.

“We didn’t get one with all the bells and whistles,” she noted. “It’s a manual system, not an automated one, but what really impressed us with CRON was the plates.” Seda’s Printing is using the Blackwood plates from CRON-ECRM, and one of the big benefits was the fact that they can be cleaned with just soap and water, with no chemical washes necessary. “I am very health conscious,” said Kangani. “So I wanted to make sure my equipment was as environmentally friendly as possible. I don’t like to use machines that require a lot of chemicals to develop and clean the plates. The CRON 36G was a great fit.”
As a bonus, Kangani noted, the plates are also far less expensive than her previous unit. She goes through an average of four boxes of 50 plates a month, for the same cost as she was paying her previous manufacturer for service alone — the first three years of service are free with CRON-ECRM CTP systems. And since the 36G is much faster, with higher quality than her old system, she is finding additional savings in her production department as well. “I am saving a lot of time and money with this new system,” Kangani noted.
Today, about 80% of Kangani’s work is still done on her offset presses. “Sometimes it doesn’t matter how expensive it is, they want to do digital,” she noted. “It’s a bit shiny, and has a different look from offset. But when people want quality, they want offset. They get more of the color and detail they are looking for. Sometimes, even if the job is only 1,000 copies I’ll put it on the offset press — it’s more beneficial to the customer to pay for the press time than to pay for clicks. I’m not a copy place — I’m a printer.”
“Seda’s Printing is a prime example of a printer evolving with the times,” said Tony Ruth, Sales Director, CRON-ECRM. “Seda Kangani has kept her business moving forward, but also recognizes the benefits in not abandoning offset for the latest trendy technology. CRON-ECRM will continue to support our printers across the country, and will continue to innovate CTP systems and plates to ensure the latest innovations apply equally to offset as they do to the digital side of the market.”
