Colter & Peterson to focus on large format productivity and efficiency at SGIA

Thursday 31. August 2017 - Following a trend that took root at last years show in Las Vegas, Colter & Peterson (booth 3150) will be giving printers and converters more of what they want at the SGIA Expo in New Orleans. From October 10-12, show visitors can learn how the 141-inch SABER X-15 PLUS paper cutter with Microcut can improve productivity 50% or more in most shops, while providing a unique edge in the large and wide format arenas.

“The interest in large or wide format paper cutters emerged about 18 months ago and it really began to expand between drupa and SGIA last year,” commented Bruce Peterson, President of North America’s largest independent distributor of paper cutters and paper handling equipment.

“Most companies we talked to understood the potential a large capacity cutter with smart electronics would have in their marketplaces. Since then, we’ve delivered many machines that have made a very big impact for our clients and their customers.”

The SABER brand line, including the X-15 PLUS, does more than just cut paper. Large and wide format customers are using it to trim a wide range of substrates, from E Flute corrugated, paper and foam board, to thick styrene, Coroplast and plastic. An ideal solution to cut large wall panels, backdrop and P-O-P displays, and poster work, Peterson says his latest X-15 PLUS large format users are benefitting additionally from the productivity spike.

“One of our west coast customers is trimming four sides of 126-inch sheets of paper. He’s really happy that he can spin the sheet without backing it out of the SABER,” informed Peterson. “They also save time during layout by using the Microcut JDF files. Another customer told me how nice and easy it is to use their Microcut system with a 15-inch touchscreen. He likes the accuracy of the SABER blade and how he just needs to hit a button to make a cut once the file goes through.”

Having Microcut makes a huge difference, not only in saving time but by improving capacity.

“With most competitive shops being nearly equal in terms of quality, price and service, you have to find something else that sets you apart from the competition,” says Peterson. ‘A Midwest customer with a SABER X-15 PLUS told me it’s a capacity factor for them. With the machine and Microcut, they have essentially doubled their capacity. Almost all of these customers understand that if you are cutting square or rectangles, you’re going to be tremendously more productive piling up the work and cutting it all instead of one at a time. Before investing in the SABER X-15 PLUS, that’s how they had to do it.”
